If this is a recent (made within the last year) TV and it has HDMI input, it is almost certainly an HDTV with an ATSC (digital) tuner. It's not just ready, it is HDTV.

Not necessarily, HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. Basically all it means is it has an input capable of receiving high definition audio and video, this does not mean that it can output HD (although most do). The only way to be sure is to look for the "HD Ready" logo (i'm sure you know what this looks like)

yes & no ed plasma are not hd but they can display hd in 480p & they all have dvi or hdmi & most progressive scan dvd player are not hd either but a lot of them have dvi or hdmi for upconverting the dvd signal to 720p or 1080i or 1080p
