50,000 dogs have been beaten b/c of rabies... they are taken from peoples home and while they are walking them and beating them to death w/ a stick... owners are given the offer of 63 cents to kill their own pets

Inhumane. I saw pictures of it, they made me cry. It's really sad. But if they do actually have rabies, they should be put down. Just not with a stick. Poor things...it's sad.

I tink it is absolutely appalling and i dont know who on earth could bring themselves to do such a thing its just inhumane a wrong on all levels under no circumstances should a person be able to harm an animal and get away wth it the fact is i heard on the news a couple of weeks back sumone who killed a dog only got a sentence that they couldnt have pets for like 18 months i think it should be a life for a life and people should be trialed in the same way they would be if they killed a human being. This is just appaling behaviour and i seriously dont know how these people sleep at night.

I read about this as well, and I feel terrible for the people who had their dogs taken and killed. I wish that the Chinese government could have come up with a better solution, especially because most of those people will go out and get another dog, and the problem will begin again. Instead, they should mandate some sort of rabies prevention program, because this is unacceptable.

I haven't heard of that... but if they're going to kill the dogs, they should at least do it quicker and more painlessly. I can understand why they might have to kill off dogs to stop rabies spread... I'm sure there are a LOT of stray dogs in China, and they probably spread rabies to the healthy pet dogs.
A lot of things that seem atrocious here happen sometimes in China, simply because they don't have the resources or the imitative to try something else.

It's horrible!!! I wish there were humane organizations over there to prevent that... Too much crowding and not enough rules with animals I guess... No matter what was going on that was a cruel way to do it! The more we talk about it the better to change things... Ignore "gitemgang" as he's always hateful and obviously doesn't have a clue... Someone needs to tell him to turn on the news and get his head out of his *** to watch it... The situation is bad enough w/o his negativity...

It's the cheapest quickest way to eliminate a problem. They do not have the luxury of placating the bleeding heart tree-hugging Peta nuts, they see a problem and they fix it.
You have to admire the Chinese. In the US, hundreds of people would have contracted rabies and died while a "better" solution was searched for.

There's much more dog-related atrocities in the Philippines, that's why mine are spoiled! Also, is you're really into dog activism, write your local politicans & ask them to sponser bills supporting increased funding for no kill animal shelters, increased felony penalities for people convicted of animal cruelty & a ban on chaining animals outside homes & commercial businesses.

you know, they eat dogs in China and rabid dogs are probably not all that good to eat. as it causes people to get the 12 injections into the stomach.to cure the rabies. China remains a poor country and the populace is not armed with firearms and clubbing is probably the safest and easiest method to dispose of a rabid animal.

Did the dogs have rabies? Does China have rabies shots? Sort of up in the air with this one. I don't like it, but I can see the reason.

i would kill the owners and rescue the pets. Or i would save the animals, and **** up the owners. I love the dogs. **** people who beat up dogs, i believe in karma, so what goes around comes around 3 times worse. So they better watch, or karma will bite them in the asses.
