Is it representative of an actual being like a Father or a Son... or is it more of an idea or concept? Why does it rank up there with god and jesus? And please don't quote any scripture to me or try to convert me! I'm just a curious bystander.

You understand about Father and Son. The Holy Ghost has confused a lot of people. But I'll give it a go. The Holy Ghost is a concept that describes the way that God moves in our hearts,. It is the part of God that is most accessible to us, particularly when we pray.

Hope that helps.

The Holy Spirit is the 3rd Person of the 3 Divine Persons that make up our 1 God.

One God, three Divine Persons. That is the Holy Trinity.

The Holy Spirit is the one Jesus meant when he told the Disciples the "Helper" was coming after He ascended to the Father. No one can call Jesus the Christ except by the Holy Spirit...meaning through the action of the Holy Spirit we are educated (our eyes are opened) as to what Chrsitianity is all about. He is also known as "teacher"

The word "spirit" is also derived from ancient words meaning "Breath" and or "Wind".

I won't quote scripture but I will generally comment that in scripture we see a few examples of the Actions of the Holy Spirit in literal contexts. At creation it tells us the winds moved across the oceans and earth....this animated and brought to life creation on earth through the power of the Holy Spirit.

God "Breathed Life" into Adam

Jesus "Breathed" on the Apostles, imparting the power of the Holy Spirit on them, when he told them what sins you forgive will be forgiven and what sins you retain will be retained in heaven.

When the Holy Spirit descended at Pentacost he came into the Upper Room with quite a forceful wind.

The Holy Spirit is every bit as much God as the Father and Son. Where one is you will find the other two.

Three Persons in One God.

Quoted from Wikipedia:
In mainstream Christianity, the Holy Spirit is one of the three divine persons of the Holy Trinity which make up the single substance of God, the others being God the Father and God the Son (Jesus). The Holy Spirit is different from Jesus in that it does not have a physical manifestation (or incarnation), and that it frequently dwells in and amongst God's people as a spiritual guide or a Comforter.

God Bless,
Vic

He is not an it. He is part of the "godhead" which is composed of Jesus the Son, God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Its a little tricky but they are three distinct beings, but they are all the one and only God. I can't explain much more without getting into the Bible but yes He "ranks" right up there, as a matter of fact blaspheme against Jesus or the Father can be forgiven but blaphemeing against the Holy Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin.

To those that accept Christ as their personal savior the Holy Spirit comes and lives within, as an intercessor with God and as a guide. Jesus said he would send this guide to His followers. It is through the Holy Spirit God hears our prayers and our confessions. The Spirit guides us to do Gods will and to understand Gods word. Without the Spirit the only prayer God acknowledges is the one accepting Christ and asking forgiveness for our sin. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all part of God. It is a mystery, not easily explained or understood.

The holy Spirit is classified as he. he ranks up to God and Jesus because he is an aspect of God that is on earth to teach us all things and to comfort us. A spirit is something that you feel it is not seen. There the Holy Spirit is felt not seen. Whenever you start on the spiritual pathway, you will understand everything better. Oh, I did not use any scriptures!(laugh)

The Holy Ghost is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity.

Though really distinct, as a Person, from the Father and the Son, He is consubstantial with Them; being God like Them, He possesses with Them one and the same Divine Essence or Nature.

He proceeds, not by way of generation, but by way of spiration, from the Father and the Son together, as from a single principle.

That is, at least what the Holy and Apostolic Roman Catholic Church says. Given that they are the ones who invented the concept you might as well go with it.

The Holy Ghost is the spirit of God. Man being made in God's image has a Spirit or Soul. It ranks up there with God and Jesus as it/He is a part of God.

The mystery of it all will get revield when we die and get to meet Him.

I wish you would consider the convert issue... It is dangerous out there without Him and the alternative is well terrifying to think of.
