My two little boys are ringbearers in a wedding this month. The groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with a deep purple vest and a collarless shirt- so no tie, just the black button thing at the neck. The father of the bride and father of the groom are wearing the same tux but with a charcoal/pewter color vest. The bridesmaid dresses are a solid deep purple.
I am opting to buy tuxes for my little boys instead of renting the matching tux. (to save money- the bride suggested this)
The tuxes for my little boys are a classic black tuxedo. I have a vest and tie choice of black or a silver brocade. (the ties are a long tie- not a bow tie, if that matters to you)
So.......
Black vest & tie -or-
Silver vest & tie?

The bride is leaving it totally up to me. She said black, white, silver or charcoal (vest & tie) Her only request was no bowtie.
It is an evening wedding.

I think that silver would look the sharpest and be the most versatile. The all-black look might be a bit dark.

No one suggested calling the bride on this one? I would say black to be safe. If you have your heart set on silver, double check with the bride before you introduce a new color into the bridal party (technically, the ringbearers are part of that.) I'm not sure that silver would really go with pewter/charcoal AND dark purple. Sounds like too much color variation to me. But the bride might love it. If you can't get ahold of her, please go with black. I'm sure that's what she had in mind when she asked you to buy the tuxes. She may love the silver though!
Okay, now that I know you've talked to the bride, I say go with black. At least you have a glimmer of hope of using it again! Maybe for the younger boy. Or you can sell them on E-Bay. My vote is definitely for black!

I would say black vest and tie, it will go with the color of the wedding (somewhat). Plus, if the boys ever need to wear them again before they outgrow the tuxes, they will have colors that go with whatever other event they wear the tuxes to.

Stick with black as this is the only real choice for a wedding. Black is called classic because it is, it matches everything. I realize that your boys will outgrow the tuxes in no time but should the need arise to wear them again or the younger child will fit into the olders ones... again..... black will suit (no pun intended) any theme or formal occasion . Should you pass them on to a friend with kids later the same will apply.

black is safe in general because it matches everything..but silver and purple are not a bad combo.. so if u'd like something to brighten things up a bit, silver could be very nice. esp when the father of the groom is wearing charcoal, which i'm assuming is a deep grayish.. :)

the silver would look nice, but its almost too much color change between everyone in the wedding party... so I say go with the black vest and tie... its simple, and wont contrast too much with the other people in the wedding.
good luck.

I think the silver vest and tie would look good on both of them.
