doing sporty things is great that way both of you get a good work out. maybe if your city has a cheap theatre (we have a $3 here that plays movies that aren't the newly released but were just in the theatre and it sells cheap popcorn, soda and candy) you could go see a movie. you can play bored games. make a game out of cooking lunches together or baking cookies etc. find some little thing he'd like and give him a scavanger hunt that he has to find his prize at the end (that could take all day if done right!).
he's old enough now to tell you what he'd like to do as well so just ask!

I agree- outside activity is good for a 9 year old boy. Or you could play video games with him. If he likes to draw, try to bring paper and crayons, or similar things if his parents haven't already supplied him. Or you could watch videos and DvDs together. Or show him how to cook: He'll need to know that when he's grown up.
Anyway, have fun!

DON"T DO IT!!! I was just babysitting a nine year-old and believe me, it was not worth the money! He argued the entire time, was mean to my daughter and threw her toys around, and after 3 weeks, I had to quit, because I simply could not tolerate it any longer.

It's not that hard to babysit that age of kid. Make sure you have some movies, to keep him occupied if you have to do something. Go outside, if he has a bike let him ride that around. Play sports.
