I have short hair! People always say I look good with it, but I think women get discouraged from doing it a lot because it's not feminine or whatever. You know "what are you a lesbian?!" is a comment I still get even though I get the good ones too. Actually, I'm growing my hair out. But not because of that, it's because long hair is fun sometimes. But also I pain in the butt.

A question I often ask myself. Most young ladies would look a LOT better with shorter hair. It would make them look more mature, etc. Here are several reasons why they don't cut it:

1. Lots of people say long hair is beautiful. It is, but only on the right people. Sometimes it doesn't compliment face shape, or gets stringy, or is just too thin.

2. Short hair can be harder to maintain, especially with layers, because you have to get it trimmed more often.

3. Some ladies keep it long because their friends want them too, or because it serves as a security blanket.

Mine is about four inches past my shoulders, and I'm getting it cut off in about a week or so.

They tend to be too insecure to try something new, like a hair style that is different than that of the average girl at their school. When I cut my hair short at sixteen, I knew it looked cute, but they acted as though it was a total scandal and the worst thing ever. I mean how can anyone ever cut their hair!? They acted as if it wouldn't grow back, the guys liked it, the girls thought it was too daring... so yep, insecurities and the need to follow the trends is why they keep their hair longer.

I think most young women follow what's in style. I don't see too many young celebrity women with short hair.

Why do older women all have short hair? I guess us young people don't want to get ahead on looking old.

I normally have pretty short hair, but for the last 3 1/2 yrs, I've been growing it out for Locks of Love...I really hate my hair long!

Because when you are young you take more time with your hair, older women tend to cut their hair for manageability reasons, so when you are young and you have less to deal with you can maintain the long hair but as you get older you have less time and hair seems less important so you just chop it all off, again because it is easier to manage.

because women today have lost the values of being an honorable woman and keeping their hair maintained at a shorter level upon entering marriage. traditions state that women wore their hair long until the day they married, and then they either cut it short or wore it up in a bun.

I do. I've never had long hair, infact. It's short, and dyed red, and I'm happy with it, and it suits me. If I want long hair I'll get a wig,

I just can't be bothered with all the fuss of drying it, straightning it, conditioning it, sprays, brushing it constantly, split ends.... And because I can't be bothered to deal with all this crap, I'll neglect my hair and it will look bad...
Thus for me it's better short!

I've been called a lesbian, yes, *yawn* and I don't care. Usually by stupid, narrowminded Chav guys who I'm not interested in anyway.

But why is long hair currently quite fashionable in men...yet they aren't called gay...????

Once my friends realised what a joy it is to be able to wash, blow dry and style short hair in as little as 15 minutes they all cut their hair short too! XD

Because most of us feel more comfortable with long hair.
I don't like my hair being short because I have curly hair and it looks better if it's long.
Besides, with long hair, we can make our hair in different styles but with short hair there is really nothing you can do with it, not even a ponytail.
