I have two toddlers, My son is three and his sister is two. They start out the morning by watching cartoons while I make breakfast and then we play with toys until lunch and then we play outside. We read for a little while in the evenings and they watch cartoons while I make dinner, then its time for a bath and off to bed. This sounds much easier than the reality of the tantrums and fights involved, lol.

THANK GOD I am not the only mom going through this....I too live in the desert, so going out to play is kinda difficult. We live amongst a million cacti and snakes, and the playground in the neighborhood has gravel which gets really hot too. PLUS, I am not working now so $$ is a limiting factor, esp. with gas prices. Anyway, my son is a year old now and I hate to admit it but I rely on TV BIGTIME. He watches Seasame Street and mostly PBS Kids Sprout. My "alternative" doctor told me that too much TV causes Attention Deficit Disorder. Even knowing this, I am still dependent on it to do chores, but I try to play with my son and with his toys. I even have started using my yoga ball with him. He loves it. I put him on top of it and roll him everywhere. I also let him explore the house while I keep an eye on him. You have to admit though, toys get old fast and it's hard to find ones that really keep their interest. It seems that my salad spinner and my yoga ball are more effective than his Baby Einstein stuff, etc. Baby Einstein videos are a life saver too.....can videos be all that bad?!!?

Things have gotten a whole lot better for my son (and for me) now that we live in a neighborhood with plenty of kids to play with. He was bored out of his mind being at home all day with mommy and no siblings. We had fun, but he really needed playmates. Good luck.

I have a 2 year old daughter and in the mornings we will wake up and I'll turn on Sesame Street while I make breakfast, then we will go outside and play for a little while, then we come in and I'll turn on a movie while I do house work, then she helps me make lunch, after lunch she takes a two hour nap while I relax and do what I want to do. After she wakes up we'll read or play with her toys, then start making supper (again she likes to help), after supper she will play with her toys or we will go outside to play or go for a walk, then a bath and then bedtime.

Let your child experience other children. You have to as a parent or they will have no social skills when the get in school. Get out and have fun. GO to the library. They sometimes have storytime for children under elementary age. That is a good way to be with children there own age.

My three year has a few little friends and we'll do play dates once a week. But when we're home in the house she loves to color and draw. Just plain pieces of paper and a few crayons keeps a quite busy.

Toys. You should leave the house often. Not only do your kids like it, but it tires them out! Go to the park and let them make friends. It is important for children to have relationships with other people besides their parents, so when they go to school, they wont be socially unaware about how to act with other people

My youngest is 4, we play playdough, fingerpaint, craft (she loves to glue), lego's and babydoll are her fav. toys. We color alot. The dollar stores has lots of books. She also "helps" with chores. She dusts, vacuums with her toy, she likes to fold the hand towel. She also has a pretend kitchen and cooks along side me. And of course, movies and TV.
She enjoys blowing bubbles too. I bought a clear shower liner and can put her in the tub and close the curtain, but still she her. I let her blow bubbles in the tub.
