and it's fairly solid when he goes. we tapewormed/all other worms too a couple days ago so should this help the bloating? he eats well, for his size, and he runs around and plays, but he's very young, too??????? i don't know..i put a call in to the vet and he hasn't called back yet, so i was just seeing what others think. thanks for your answers!
btw: i see a lot of questions asking why all these people who know nothing about dogs post questions like mine...well, i have had dogs all my life, i've just always been fortunate enough to have healthy dogs, and haven't had a lot of experience with sick ones. so that's my two cents on that...just for those who may criticize. thanks again

1. He still may be shedding worms through his feces.
2. Is it after he eats or drinks. Puppies are small and want to fill their bellies to capacity and its very noticable

Well taking care of the worms if that was the problem will help a lot, worms cause bloating, other than that as long as the puppy is a happy puppy and doing all the puppy things I don't think I would worry about it. I'm sure you'll know what to look for if the puppy starts acting different then you will call your vet, so just have fun with the puppy.

In regards to the bloating puppy. If he is still nursing no matter how many times you deworm the pup the worms will come back. They are transmitted from the mom to the pups via the milk. If that isn't the case than it might be around the feed habits. If you are feeding the pup dry food are you mixing it with water at the same time? What happens if you don't is that the dog will eat and fill it's belly, then it gets a drink of water to wash it all done and the water causes to the food to expand in it's belly making it bloat. Sounds like the pup's digestive system is working fine as what is going in is also coming out...and in a nice solid form. Give the water in the food trick a try and see if that helps.

I understand your concern and would never criticize you, it's just like a child-when they get sick they get sick and there really isn't anything you can do to change it. With that said I wonder if your pup stays bloated or not? Worms may be a cause but one serious illness you need to check into is Bloat-it is the second leading cause of death in pups and dogs. If not cured with in hours it can be fatal so make sure you check with your vet quickly...or find a vet that will actually return your calls :) I am not sure what kind of dog you have but it is most common in deep chested dogs like shepards, dobbies, boxers, ect.... But on a positive note here are symptoms (which yours doesn't seem to be exibiting):
unsuccessfull attempts at vomiting (every 5-20 min)
doesn't act like usual self
serious anxiety or restlessness
hunched up appearance
and a bloated stomach that may feel real tight-like a drum
I hope this helps-I am not trying to scare you, I just want you to know one major cause of bloating...

Is he bloated all day or just after eating? After puppies eat, their tummies get huuuuuuuge. After a while, their body absorbs what it needs from said food and the puppy excretes what's left over. That could be it. Or he might just be fat. How do you know it's bloating and not anything else?

Puppies tend to have fat or bloated tummies right after they've eaten. Is the bloating happening after your puppy eats?
If not, I'd say wait a week or so to see if the dewormer does the trick. Still talk to your vet though!

Yes. Sometimes I'm having a horrible day and I'll just go home if i'm at school. There were a few times in the fall where I would go to my morning lectures but I was feeling really crappy and would skip the evening ones and my friend would email me the notes.

It might be colic. There are some great websites listing doggie illnesses and such, try a google search. But I would strongly recconmend calling the vet, bloating is NEVER a good sign. Also, pick up a book listing symptoms, illnesses and first aid for dogs. Its a great thing to have around.

It will take a few days for the medicine to take effect. Make sure and worm him again in a few weeks.
