It seems like we have some level of choice between Bitter and Better. I don't understand it that well, but I know that adversity does enable you to grow if Bitterness does not set in.

It is not the experience itself that shapes us, but the choices we make through the experience. We can choose to succumb to the depths bitterness or we can choose to fight past the anger, fear, depression, etc. that has been brought our way through a crisis, a disease or a wound of the heart. We have the ability to not allow our circumstances to make us who we are, no matter how painful or devastating the situation was.

I agree with you absolutely. I've had a past of very unhappy circumstances, alot of which were of my own making because of poor choices. I'm bitter about nothing, because I'm wise enough to know that, because of what I did, I reaped the consequences of my actions.
Especially since becoming a born again Christian, I understand that what I do, my actions and choices, affect what happens in my life. I have no control over what others do...I do have control over how I deal with it. I'm old enough to know it's a waste of your life to stay embittered over something someone did or said to you.
God works all things for good, to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

The Bible states that God only disciplines the ones of faith... but gives us all judgment. so i believe that some it will make them bitter. as God said he hardens the hearts of some (non believers) and those that believe see it as God saying something to us. that is my belief.

i think it does both. you are bitter at first, but after awhile you discover how the situation taught you a lesson or made you a better person.

I'm a different person than I was at twenty, and I wouldn't change it. I'm quite a bit more cynical, but also a lot happier.

It's not easy up on the "Potters Wheel". Everything that has happened to me ( good and bad ) has brought me closer to God.
