No one treats Mel Gibson as if he is Hitler. I'm pretty sure anyone would receive the same response if they said such deeply offensive statements. The reason his comments are such a big deal is because: 1. He is a celebrity 2. In many ways he is a Christian figurehead (especially to those who are non-Christians) and 3. The Jews are already receiving enough flack because of the war in Israel and Lebanon.

As with all religious fundamentalists or political zealots, Mel is biased against a particular group of human beings because of his beliefs.
The day we throw all the "book" religions into the fire and begin looking at each other as fellow human beings - all coming from the same Divine Source - that will be the beginning of real peace, understanding, and a true appreciation for the blessing that is life itself.

Its the Anti-Christian; Anti-Catholic; Anti-Christ bunch that has been on his back since it was announced he was making the Passion of the Christ.
If you try to come around and leave your old life and become a devout and practicing Christian you have painted a target on your back.
I would also like to say, we are all only human and we all slip and commit sin that we need to continually repent for. Mel is no different...a fallible human being. He slipped. He knows he slipped and is now sorry for it.
For all you folks who are exactly the same as Jesus Christ...without sin....go ahead and start throwing your stones.
And you people talk about hypocrites.

I think the world is good enough to forgive him his comments. I will be disappointed if I hear someone has tried to do him harm over it. Also, we don't know all of what went on when he did "Passion of Christ." Mel might have some baggage to take care of. It is between Mel and God.

Those who are screaming the loudest are perfect so they have the right to belittle any and everyone. The guy was having a bad day or just used extremely poor judgement. As far as his comments go, he has an opinion just like everybody else. His problem is the fact that he is a celebrity.

Mel is a good actor, and maybe director. He was raised in an renegade Catholic offshoot environment (figure that out). He does not like Jews, he is probably not a Christian. We should not expect any different behavior from him.

I read that he has a tendency to make offensive ethnic comments about Jewish people and their communities. He's also got one hell of a temper according to people who were part of that one war movie he made... I don't remember, but he filmed some of it at Camp Roberts when my husband was stationed there and they all said he was a jerk. So, combined jerk with offensive ethnic comments, and the liberals of the world will compare him to Hitler. I would say that he just is mean, cranky, and needs to be brought down from his high horse.

because people in society label people. NOt everyone is perfect. Sometimes people say things that they don't mean, but once they make that mistake they are labeled as a bigget or against any nationality. What he said was wrong, and he aplogized for what he said. I would forgive him as he didn't kill anyone did he? No. He made a mistake and he will eventually pay for it, but he did apologize. What is wrong with people these days???? They don't want to forgive.

Hitler bothers me, Mel just messed up. I've done some awful things while drunk. Give him a break. We don't have to watch his movies if we don't want to.
