Or would he have told me to help them (with my possessions in hand) out to their car? When would Christ have said it is O.K. to kill someone?

Matthew 5: 40-42
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
And whoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him in twain.
Give to him that asketh thee, and fromhim that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Keep in mind He was cool about letting his own son be nailed to a cross and left to die a very painful death, having been previously tortured for hours. He does not do too much to stop people all over the world from being tortured. People being stones to death was one of the worst deaths I have seen so far, and I have seen quite a few! The almighty was obviously busy at the time, or else it was cool with it, because he did nothing to help the unfortunate person being stoned to death. The planes were pretty well allowed to fly into the twin towers. Again please remember we are talking about a God who had a lovely garden with the most beautiful flowers and plants and the best of water, and only two people who were getting on grand, madly in love. God was not at all cool with that arrangement, so he decided it would be cool to place another tree, more beautiful than any other, with delicious apples growing from it right in the middle of this already exquisite garden, and then tell the two, the only two people in the whole world, not to touch it. And so sadism started!! The Marquis De Sade would have wet himself with excitement at that very idea. So go ahead, blow the thieves to hell, just, for Christ's sake, don't get caught by the cops!! I don't know about Christians, but I would rather you did not have that on your conscience.

If the poor soul is desperate enough to do something like that He obviously needs some help, not a bullet.

If I found my self in a situation like that I would hope I would have the good sense to Take the guy to an ATM and get him a few hundred to hold him over till I could find something for him to do, so I could give him a job. If he did not want my help that would be his decision. I would still offer to do this because I would be afraid that some cowboy might shoot him otherwise.

It is definitely O.K. to kill to protect your own life. The commandment not to kill actually means murder. You should not commit murder. There is also a place in the Bible where it says to follow the laws of the land. If you do not murder someone according to the laws where you are, and you think you are doing what is right, it most likely is. Personally, as a Christian, I would never kill someone unless I felt there was no other choice, my life or his.

I don't believe Christ would condone any kind of violence, but I'm sure He would understand if you were defending yourself. Christ teaches us to "turn the other cheek", but there is nowhere in the Scripture where He says we should be a doormat and allow other people to walk all over us, including stealing our possessions.

Always remember though, as Christians, we are not perfect, but we are forgiven! We need to repent in order to receive that forgiveness though....and God knows our hearts, so He knows whether we are sincere in our repentance!

I think if you are in danger (especially if you have a family), you have the right to do whatever you feel is necessary to keep yourself and your family safe. It is also in the commandments that Thou shall not steal, so this person is not correct in doing what it is that he is doing. Stealing is caused by man's envy. We steal because we feel as though we have the right to have it if others have it...

Yes, He would condone shooting someone (that is murder). And he would not tell you to help them steal. He would probably want you to sit back and call the police. He never mentioned for us to have any reason to kill someone.

Christ would prefer you use a sword or club and just bust them up a bit, and then invite them to tea at the house.

You are responsible to protect your family, self defense and merely killing some one for the pleasure of doing it are two different things.

Would you want to be shot dead for stealing?

Galations 5:14The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
