It wouldn't even had made the news. Liberal filth (which deserves painful deaths and eternal hellfire) loves to attack Christians whenever possible and protects those that do.
Now if you replaced "Jew" with "Muslim" Mel Gibson would be in far more serious trouble than he is now. (Liberals love to protect and encourage the enemies of Christianity)
And if he said "Blacks" well Mel would have all of his assets seized, imprisoned, or likely dead because as we all know, No one is allowed to say anything about the poor Yard Apes.

If a Christian vilified Christians it would not make much of a splash. It would, in that case, be the incoherent babbling of a drunk.
But in this case the problem isn't that it makes no sense or doesn't fit in with his beliefs expressed elsewhere. They guy made a movie based on anti-jewish writings of a medieval mystic that have been used to justify violence against a particular minority for centuries. He claimed he didn't share the prejudicial views. But with a little booze in him he showed that he does share that hatred of Jews.
Jews are a minority and one that has a long history of being oppressed by the majority. When seen in light of his movie, the views are reprehensible and perhaps even dangerous. Similar views held about the majority would be less dangerous because there isn't the history of violent attacks and oppression against the majority (no matter how much some in the majority might whine that there is.)

No, but then nobody ever came along and slaughtered 3/4 of the Christians in Europe (at least not since Roman times...). That sort of thing gives Jew-hating a bad name.
I think Mel was raised by a bigot of a father, in spite of how he tries to hide it. Intellectually, he knows that what he learned as a child is wrong, and he tries to do the right thing. However, when he gets drunk, the stuff he learned as a child and has tried to repress- it all comes bubbling to the surface, and he says things he'll regret when he sobers up.
Sort of like white people who gre up in the south, and know they're not supposed to hate black people, but that's what they learned as a kid. They may suppress it and try to behave, but the behaviour can show itself from time to time.
Hmmm, and Mel's picked a business with a high proportion of Jewish people. Ha ha.

I think, NO. It will upset some Christians though, but it won't be a major incident. He might even be scorned by his church for making such a remark.
I noticed that it is more socially tolerated to criticize your own group of people rather than another. This is the de facto limit of free speech. Crossing that line is preceived as being rude. Only Jews can criticize themselves, so does Christians, Moslems, and people of other religions. This tolerance also extends to races and ethnicity, from whites, blacks, asians, latinos, etc.
Interestingly, political parties can criticize other political parties just like democrats vs republicans, etc...

He is a Christian, so he'd be insulting himself. This would mean that there'd be no question that it was the alcohol talking. Keep in mind that Gibson has had tensions with the Jews because of his father's views and "The Passion of the Christ."

I think so. The US has an obsession with being "politically correct". Also, a movie star isn't supposed to offend anyone because they are his/her fanbase. Think about it. If Mel Gibson was yelling "The Pope is a c*nt and should be killed" you know his a$$ would be grass.

He wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as much publicity over the incident if he had used any word other than "Jew."
Jews have an international organization of whiners who immediately begin protesting any time the word "Jew" is used in a negative context.

Mel would not be in hot water if he had not been drunk. When a man drinks he is a very different person.

No, I think that would make him a Yahoo Answers poster. Aren't they always on about how religion causes all wars? (despite how easily such a statement can be shown to be empirically false.)
