For those who do not like Christians. Did you have a bad experience with on?. If so who? When? Do you have family members who call themselves christians who yet are very harsh and unloving?
As for me it was my parents. It was all my childhood. It was stolen from me because me parents were so busy in church we had no time to be kids. And the people in the church were mean, judgemental, and scorned those who didnt look like, have the same tastes, and didnt go to church 3 times a week. They would treat my parents like bad parrents if we made mistakes, like laugh in church or something. In put alot of pressure on us and my parents.
My parents latter balanced out and apoligized for putting us through all that. I latter came to the faith because I saw God was good inspite of many of his people being ignorant. Please share your experience.

I have no particular dislike for Christians, but I will relate a story...
One night I was at the end of my rope, I had looked for a job all day and had come up with nothing. I went by Blockbusters to rent a movie and pick up an application when a preacher approached me...
"Do you believe in God?"
In response I said "Do you!?"
He was taken aback and we talked to the side for about ten minutes. I was agnostic then, as I am now, and he said that he had never met someone who came off so strong in being for Christ's message. He told me about a man that would send me to Bible college, and for a moment I was interested. Then he made one statement, "We don't let any of them ******* into our congregation either." and my blood went cold.
The point? Not all who claim to follow Christ's path do, and not all that refuse to accept him as their savior do not. I hope that helps you.

Interesting Q! My Mother's mother was agnostic, my Father's mother a Catholic. The latter woman was an evil dominating old bag but the former was wonderful. I knew from a really young age that I just didn't believe JC was God or more emphatically the son of The God. That underlying statement makes me by definition not Christian although I purport to many Christian values. My choice to be Pagan had little to do with either grandmother.

I don't dislike Christians particularly (my partner is Christian) or any other group but I find all human religions generally to be incredibly judgemental. I think it comes from a fear of being found fraudulent of ideology; ie If I denigrate someone else first they won't suspect the weakness of my own beliefs. There is always one person in every group attempting to prove how much they believe or how much better their spiritual choice is.

Judgemental behaviours are the first thing I believe that need to be attended to in any religion, especially from the Christian bible (which I don't give a lot of cred but still some is good value) a major impact statement from JC "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone".

I must say though that I am guilty of using Christians as a comical outlet. My main direction is along the lines of:

Q:Why was the lion licking another lion's butt?
A: It had just eaten a Christian & was getting the taste out of its mouth.

The shame I feel is almost insurmountable.

I am really glad you see God as good, but being a Christian dose not necessarily give you that, I have been a so called Christian all my life I do not attend church any more because that is not where I found him, God is in you just like he is in me my family my friends it is the love we have and share for each other in our homes and our get together back yard "barb a ques" we do not need a judgemental congregation in a church and we do not need to read the Gospel on Sundays if you say you have god in your heart I can tell you from experience that's all you need

Don M. gave you a lovely answer. Yes. Everything in this life is a product of our perception. Consequently, if you are color blind, you will see things differently. It will be your personal truth as you are the one experiencing it.

And me? Why am I not Christian?

The simple answer is, I found no significant place set at the table for women. So, given Don's answer, I must add, "Would the creator of this incredible, almost unfathomable universe give power to one sex to brandish over the other? Would this loving god deny the full experience of life, faith and expression of both to the female sex?" I think not. Thus...

I do not accept or follow any of the "book" religions. All, to one degree or another, deny a full place setting at the table of faith.

I really don't like adherents of most organized religions. Christians believe the vast majority of the world is going to goto hell because they don't believe what they do... If this really is true (which I highly doubt), I reject any God that would condemn good people who have other beliefs. This is just one of the myriad of inconsistincies in Christianity.

Luckily, the evidence points to religion being a man made construct used to explain the unexplainable, give people a semblance of control in a crazy world, and to control the populace. I do however, believe in God (in some form) for reasons that I am hard pressed to explain.

To me, it is most likely that we (humans) are probably completly wrong as to the nature/motivations of god and the true nature of the universe.

Shane,

I don't not like Christians. Until I began to take note of the rise of hate stemming from the fevered wing of the party, I even considered myself one. Now among with other things, I'm a closet Christian and am very ashamed of what passes for Christianity in our country today. It is far from it.

If I could ask an honest question. Didn't lots of people who worked for Hitler consider themselves to be Christians too? I offer that up as an example of what can go wrong with religions when they get mixed up with things - such as politics, that don't belong as a part of religous beliefs.

My favorite saying these days is God save me from your followers. It really says it all. I wish the fervent zealots would give me back my religion.

Peace.

I'm angry with fundamentalist Christianity because they are so willing to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down my throat. Run of the mill Christians don't help matters either because they accept the abuses of the fundies in the name of "tolerance". This is true of most religions as is illustrated by the fact that moderate Muslims don't hit the streets to complain about Islamo-Fascists. A little bit of Religion is like a little bit of syphilis, unless eradicated, it always gets worse.

I think tho that to balance it all

some folks try so hard to please their church instead of relaxing and enjoying their relationship with God that their relationships suffer

perhaps it is time for 'church' to give their people guilt free time off to enjoy with their families and non church friends

i am a christian whose parents were part of a different faith and i was put off their faith by their legalism and exclusivity towards everyone else

I don't like individuals who are not their own ally. Be them Christian , Atheist, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Unitarian, Etc.
One way you might act that isn't in your own best interest is to classify people by groups.
Judge individuals based on their own character and integrity. Not by the group they belong to. You will have a much better life.
