I was thinking of getting a list of people with various views and pairing them up to debate various issues (Is there a God, Is the Book of Mormon Historical, Was Jesus Crucified, Should Homosexual Marriage be Legal, those sorts of things) via email discussions.

People could then read the transcripts of a debate if they'd like and maybe they could vote on a winner which could translate into some sort of point system.

Do you think it would work? God any advice?

If you'd like to join up you can email me at brodie_geers@yahoo.com with a brief description of your beliefs and what you'd like to debate about and I'll try to set it up.

It would give a questioner a chance to get into more detail on their position.. As long as it doesn't establish any one religion as a standard sure why not..

If someone is open minded enough to actually consider the alternative point of view, they are already doing it. Everything is out there for the picking, libraries, the Internet.
You will only get an argument that ends in furious name calling..

I think if you changed it to christians it may work. Just to say religion covers a wide range. I could get up at 4:00 every day and tie my shoes at 4:30 and have a religion.

It may work as long as you keep the fundamentalists out. fundamentalists have closed minds and won't listen to any other views except theirs.

Awesome... smart idea. But there's have to be a mediator to keep things from getting too argumentative, you know?
