Okay I just got put onto birth control this week and I know it's not fully effective for a week after you start using it but after that is okay not to use a condom? I know for a fact that neither me nor my boyfriend have any std's because we were both virgins before we were together. So putting that completely aside is it alright. I'm taking Yasmin and it has a failure rate of less than 1 percent when used correctly and I'm making sure to use it right. I guess I just want some other oppinions before I do anything without a condom. Thanks for your help.

P.S.- My bf is not trying to get me not to use one...this is MY question. So please don't tell me not to let him pressure me into something blah blah. Cuz he never has pressured me to do ANYthing. Thanks. Buh-Bye. <3

Ok I will let you in on a secret doctor's don't tell women (God only knows why). Birth control is effective from the first day you use it BUT you MUST take the first pill on the first day of your period. It is only effective if you use it like that. If you wait until the Sunday after your period starts it will take 1 week to have an effect. I use Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo I started taking it the first day of my period. I have not gotten pregnant and I do not use condoms with my boyfriend.

First off, birth control can take several months before it becomes fully effective. I would recommend that you go at least two months without any spotting before you consider not using a condom. The reason for this is that not every ones body uses the same dose of medication and if yours requires a higher dose than normal you could still get pregnant until the dosage is adjusted. The second thing I would say is that while one percent seems small, make sure that your willing to deal with the consequences of being in that one percent category before deciding to forgo the condom. If you can honestly say that your ready to deal with having a baby right now then go for it, if not then keep using the condom.

you sound young. so teenager to teenager, the best advice i could give you is to use a condom anyway. although yall have been together for long, he luvs u, u luv him and all that other blah.....its still always safer for you in two ways. 1. u will have less chances of becoming pregnant. 2. u will have less chances of contracting a STD. Yeah even though yall were both "virgins", youll never know the truth til both u guys get tested. Thats one of the reasons y half the nation have STD's now. And gosh, u said u been on Yasmin for a week..,now u know that is not going to be fully effective after a week. give it more time and stop rushing into something u really dont need.

Actually, if you are taking a birth control pill, it is actually not safe to have unprotected sex for about a month. It is still best for him to pull out before cumming if you decide not to use condoms sooner than that. Also, if there is any interruption in between months, even for a day, use condoms for at least a week after you start taking them again.

As long as you have waited the appropriate period of time after starting your birth control, and you always take the birth control appropriately, then chances are that you will not get pregnant.
But, I would get everyone tested for STD's, just in case. There are sexual activities that most people don't consider sex that will still transmit STDs, and it's just too big a risk to take.

The only sure way is to not even have sex. Ask a physician or someone in that field because there is no sure way to be 100 percent safe from becoming pregnant or catching a STD

I think a good time to stop using condoms is when you get married. Are you willing to take the 1% risk of getting pregnant?
Because using condoms would cut that down to even less.
The answer to this would depend on your situation.

Actually it takes a whole month to kick in. It has to go through your whole mentrual cycle to kick in....not just the sunday after you start your mentrual cycle.

Be careful. And realize that it doesn't always work. Make sure you know you can deal with the aftermath, like getting prego.

Good luck with everything and have fun, but be careful too

you must be on ALL birth control pills for 1 month BEFORE they are effective...also taking pills correctly means taking them at the same time every day, if you miss a pill and double up the next day you MUST use a condom....
