Brown a chopped onion in a pan and they add the mince and brown well. Add a glass of red wine a beef stock cube and water to cover. Cook for 20-30 mins. Thicken with cornflour and serve. Please don't attempt to cook it in the microwave or you'll turn Vegetarian immediately!

If you do it in the microwave it will stick together and become a giant hard ball of meat. If you REALLY want to use the microwave.. make some meatball soup, just put some plain chicken broth into a large bowl, make some meat balls out of the minced meat, and boil for about 5 minutes in the microwave. You can add carrots or whatever you like to the soup as well.. but don't just put the meat on a plate and nuke it.. it will taste horrible!

Minced Meat: Don't eat or taste raw minced meat - it's not safe! Cook minced meat thoroughly because being minced exposes more of the meat surface to bacteria. Make sure minced beef dishes such as burgers and meat loaf are completely cooked to 160ºF in the centre of the thickest portion. If meat loaves contain minced pork, the temperature should be 170ºF.

Ingredients:

Mince meat, 1 kg
Onions (medium sized), 3
Ginger paste, 1 tablespoon
Garlic paste, 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder, 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder, 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil (corn/vegetable/olive), 3 tablespoon
Green chilies, 3
Mint leaves, 1/2 cup
Corriander leaves, 1/2 cup
Method:

Chop onions.
Wash mincemeat & drain thoroughly.
Chop mint & corriander leaves & keep aside for garnishing.
Heat oil. Add onions & fry till they change color.
Add ginger & garlic pastes, fry for 1 minute.
Add mincemeat & mix well. Add the remaining spices & mix well.
Cook for 3 minutes & keep stirring.
Add water just to cover the onions & mince meat. Cover with lid & cook till tender on almost simmer.
When water is dried & mincemeat done stirr well with wooden spoon so that the onions are all mashed up & everything mixed uniformly.
When done garnish with corriander & mint leaves.
Serve hot with roti, chapati(bread) or rice.

There are two types of minced meat...

There is minced meat made of meat like beef, used in stews and caseroles, and there is mincemeat used in mince-pies (christmas treat) which is actually just stewed and sweetened fruit....but I don't think you actually have to cook the second type, just heat the pies up and pour over some cream.

The first type though, don't do it in a microwave...yuck!!! You have to shallow-fry it.

Well, they way my nan cooked it was the best...first she boiled it in a pot to melt away all of the fat (Just put it in a pot of simmering water for about 10 minutes) Then she put it onto a heated frying pan, added some ground black pepper, salt, thyme and basil and gently fried it...as it fried you need to stir it a bit to break it up.

Absolutely delicious served with mashed potatoes, baby carrots and loads of bisto gravy - mmmm, comfort food at its best - Irish Style!

Put the mince into a pre heated pan and move around every minute or so to break up any lumps. Shouldn't need to add any oil or fat. When browned, ready to make your Shepherds Pie
