Cats can often times be born with it, and some cats can actually get it even if they have been given the vaccine. If you took your cats to the vet they probably all got the vaccine. We had a cat that was about 2 or 3 when she died from it and the vet didn't know if she got it from another cat and the vaccine didn't work or if she was born with it. The day after she was diagnosed she died, sometimes it just happends like that. it is like any cancer some people can get it and live a long long time and others die almost as soon as they are diagnosed.
I'm sorry for you loss.

no all (FLV) feline lukemia virus is the same.
its the same as lukemia or aids in people some amune systems can fight if for longer and some cant.

you other cat is ok as the virus has to be able to enter the body(cuts etc) thats why people with aids dont infect people they live with.

but nutering cats decreases fighting (this is one way they pick it up fighting with infected cats) also you can VACCONATE cats aginst FLV.

It's just like aides in people, different cats react differently. Some can have really long lives while some have more accelerated symptoms.

it's different for each individual. some people who get sick with a disease live a long time and others a short time.
