Depends on what you want. Purebreds tend to have an overall 'breed personality' - that means you can predict it's typical behavior, activity level, trainability, and food & exercise requirements with a good amount of accuracy. Mutts are a mixed bag, unless you know the mix they are: then you may be able to guess at some of above better. People that think mutts are healthier are perpetuating a common myth: they can have problems, too. For example, if a German Shepherd with hip dyplasia has pups by a Golden Retriever with hip dysplasia, the pups can have it, too. The less health problems the breeds the pups parents have in common, the less likely they are to have a specific problem. But any breed or mix can have epilepsy, heart defects, severe allergies, cancer, etc. I worked at vet for many years, and saw it all. So, you must choose what you want based on your needs, purebred or mutt. If you want a purebred but would feel guilty about buying a dog, contact a purebred rescue group about adopting the breed you like (type the breed's name & 'rescue' in the search bar) - saving a life is saving a life, whether the dog is a purebred or not!

It depends on the mix and if the particular mixed breed dog fits in with your lifestyle and accomodations. If it's a large mixed breed dog and you live in an apartment....I would say no. My point is that it doesn't matter if you have a mixed breed or pure breed dog. What matters is whether that dog is right for you and your situation. Make sure you have the facilities and time to take care of that dog's needs.....food, exercise, etc...
I have two pure breed dogs.....both rescues. But I have had many mutts in my day. Either can be very rewarding as long as you can accomodate it's needs. With any breed of dog, pure or mutt, can come hereditary health issues. So, whoever said that pure bred dogs are more prone to health issues....WRONG. I have known all kinds of mutts that have hip displacia, cancer, all kinds of things. While it's true that there are things that can be more prominent in one breed than another, getting a mutt does not eliminate or even diminish the possibilities of health issues.
If you feel that this mutt is right for you and you really like it and can take good care of it....get it! Don't be a breed snob!! And by all means, get your dog spayed or neutered!!!

I would go with your gut feeling and adopt the mutt. Mutts are generally hardier dogs with fewer health problems. My family has always owned mutts and all of them have been great!
But don't base your decision on looks alone. Get to know each dog's temperament before you make your decision, and think carefully about what you want.
How big will the dog get? Do you have space for it? Do you want a really active dog? Is grooming going to be a big issue for you? (Some shed more than others or require grooming often) There are lots of questions to consider.
I hope that the dog you choose will fit you and your lifestyle! Good luck!

With a purebred, you know how the adult is going to turn out in terms of size, shape, color, and a better idea of how it will turn out in temperment. However, a downside is the inbred physical problems many purebreds have. Some also have inbred hyperness and other bad characteristics. So it's still somewhat of a gamble.
A mutt is probably more physically resilient, but you have less idea of how they will look physically and how they will turn out temperment wise. They're still a good bet, though. A lot of times they can be pretty mellow with a lot of mixed background.

If you like the mutt, get her! She needs love, and someone who appreciates her uniqueness. Unless you have a dog sport that you want to do that only a specially breed dog can do(Field trails, etc.) what's the problem? Take her and love her!!
BTW, I do purebred rescue, and breed occasionally, but mutts have been some of my best pets! And there are some dog sports she can do, fly ball, agility, and frisbee come to mind.

If you love the Mutt and the Mutt loves you then its a match for you. You can train a mix breed just as good a pure bred, its your choice on the matter but where does your heart say is your answer.

First off the answerer would have to take into consideration what the characteristics you think of when you say 'better'.
Any dog is what you make it.
purebreds could cost thousands and turn out completely useless given the wrong kind of care and environment.
Certain breeds are most likely to do one thing and another is bred for other tasks.
I tend to like mutts because they are easier going (in my opinion,) than some purebreds.
They usually come out with the best traits of their various mixtures, and I"ve seen them train a bit easier than some breeds.
Whichever you choose, it will be up to you whether it turns out to be a 'good dog', or not.

If you like the mutt & the mutt likes you...get it, & take care of it.
But, I have found that mutts are generally smarter than most purebreds.
Labs are just smart dogs, they haven't bred brains out of them yet.

There is no "better". Get the one you want.
If you have any desire to show your dog, you'll need a purebred. If there is a working trait that is important to you, like herding, it may be more straight-forward to get a purebred of one of those breeds.
Otherwise, I can't think of any good reason that you would be better off getting a purebred. Mixed breed dogs are just as good looking, personable, and lovable. They are just as trainable, and just as healthy (sometimes healthier, depending).

Yes in my opinion mix breeds are better then purebred.
> why ? purebred dogs tend to be more high strung , hardheaded,
difficult to train, and more aggressive ... not good with children
and like wildbill stated you have health and medical issues thats are carried along in their genes.
Where mix breeds are more laid back , easy to train , adapt well,
