Leviticus 11:9-12 says eating shrimp is abomination. Some Christians are saying its ok to eat shrimp because back then it was bad for them to eat because they might have got sick.

In 2006 we know how to cook shrimp and not get sick, so that is why the arguement is made by some Christians that Leviticus 11:9-12 doesn't apply.

Leviticus 18:22 says homosexual sex is abomination. Some Chrsitians state if there wasn't homosexual relations there wouldn't be spread of disease.

Its 2006. We know about diseases and about safe sex. We know about condoms. Just like we know how to properly cook shrimp.

Isn't it time to stop quoteing Leviticus 18:22 as a reason to hate gay people

I totally agree. You have a great point. Heterosexuals are just as capable of spreading STDs as homosexuals are. Both sides should take the necessary precautions (condoms) when having sex. Homosexuals are not solely responsible for the spread of disease. That would be like saying that shrimp was solely responsible for spreading disease at the time the Bible was written. Christians seem to think that they can pick and choose which part of the Bible they do and do not have to follow (hypocrites). They say that homosexuality is wrong because the Bible says it's wrong but in the same breath will say that it is okay to eat shrimp. The Bible hasn't changed so what makes them think they can decide which parts to follow and not to follow? Great question!

There is alot more to the thing about shrimp than just staying healthy. I think there is a sort of "hidden clause"...trust God. If the people trust Him, then even when they don't understand why shrimp is not healthy, they don't eat it, because He said so, and they don't get sick.
Knowing about diseases and safe sex doesn't seem to have prevented disease or, in the case of heterosexual couples, unwanted pregnancy. Maybe a time will come when science will completely solve those problems. Till then, my advice would be to trust God.
It is time and past time to stop using ANY quotation from scriptures as a reason for hating anybody. God never intended the Bible to be used as a weapon.
In the eyes of God, hatred is the very worst abomination of all!

Sadly there are people out there who will use any excuse to hate, regardless of what they clam to be.

We believe that certain things are abominations based on scripture, but we are not under the old law. Jews were also told not eat flies, gnats and to wash their hands before eating. These things caused problems for the phrases as well and they attempted to trap Christ with the same dilemma.

It is impossible to be a Christian and have hate in ones heart!!!!!!
Yes we believe that homosexuality is an abomination ...so is lying and we have all done that at some point. If God's grace is sufficient enough to forgive , it would be blasphemy for any one else to say there is is not.

To Calill C: HIV is spread by homosexuals just as easily as by heterosexuals. Plenty of heterosexuals have AIDS.

As for the actual question, it's just intolerance and bigotry.

The question left out an important idea. Included with the idea of not eating shrimp are other dietary restrictions, such as a ban on pig. These I can understand the logic behind the reversal. However, there's also a ban mentioned on mixing meat and dairy. The reasoning is that it is an insult to the animal that was killed for food. It's like saying to a cow, "Not only are we going to kill you, but we're going to put part of your mother (milk) on top of you." This aspect of dietary restrictions has not been overcome today.

I don't hate Gay people, just the life style. Yes we know how to cook things now, and God did say in the New Testament that if He created it for food, it was ok to eat it. He never said sex outside of marriage was ok or that sex with anyone or anything else was ok. He didn't say sex with the same gender was ok.
Do your condoms work 100% all of the time. The HIV virus is very small and can go through the microscopic holes in them.

Also in that time the Jews where not aloud to eat certain foods to show that they are different from other nations and that they are God's children. But in the New Testament God shows Peter that now it's okay to eat anything because God has made them clean. But God never said that homosexual was good now. Homosexual is totally against biology and what God wants!

To the Jewish people shrimp is an unclean animal, like the pig is to muslims. Also, we know that many people who have gone the homosexual lifestyle have died from sexual diseases.

I don't think most Christians "hate gay people". Where do you get that from?

I think what you are really saying is that Christians don't agree that homosexuality is morally "ok" and you feel threatened that anyone else has a different set of standards than you do so you accuse them of "hating" simply because they are different. I think that's (what you're doing) called "bigotry".

Shrimp was bad, we can now cook it well. Homosexually did not allow "multiplying, and being fruitful". That made raising an army hard with no kids. Now we have artificial insemination.

First of all, I don't eat shrimp or any of those foods listed as unclean....

Secondly, if we know how to have safe sex, and you have it all figured out, why are so many people still getting diseases like AIDS????
