Some people have gas also in their house, as well as electric......the point in having a gas oven is simple.....gas is easier to control for cooking than electric, as the flame on a gas ring, can be turned off automatically, as oppossed to electric that takes along time to cool down. It is all a matter of what you prefer to cook on and use.....I prefer to use gas, although i have electric at the moment. Some people think that cooking with gas is cheaper, and some people cook with electric, because they dont have gas coming into their house........it is just a matter of preference and convenience.

A gas oven is an oven that is powered by natural gas instead of electric. Thus -gas- oven. Some ovens are only made to work with gas. If this is the case, it is good to use a gas oven. They actually cook much better than electric ovens. I have used both, and everything out of the gas oven comes out much fluffier.

Gas is cheaper than electricity.
But I think the issue is more about gas stoves/burners. You can control the heat of gas easier. When you turn gas on or off, it's on or off 100%. When you turn electricity on or off, the coils take a while to heat up and cool down. The same thing applies to ovens, but it is not as important as ovens need to heat up the air inside the oven. Perhaps it would be faster to get to temperature, but I really have not seen gas ovens perform so much better than electric ones. But gas stove tops are far superior to electric ones.

Well, if you have a gas stove, you may have a gas oven. It is far easier to control the heat of a gas stove than an electric one and I would say far more desirable.
However, heat is supposed to be more even in an electric oven and these are supposed to be more desirable than gas ovens.
I've a gas stove and electric oven. However, if I got a cooker which was a combination then I would end up having a gas oven as I couldn't stand having an electric stove.

Your electric oven/stove may require special plugs and they do use a LOT of electricity.
I looked into putting an electric oven into my home. I had a gas stove that died. In order for us to install the less expensive electric stove, we had to have an electrician come in to redo the outlets. It worked out to be more expensive than just buyng the gas stove. But we already had the hook up for gas installed.
Some condos and apartment complexes require electric only because they feel it is safer.
And in some parts of the country, you may have to use propane instead of natural gas. This will require adapters.
Having had both, I think a gas stove is much easier to cook on.
Hope this helps!

I've had both and I believe that a gas stove is easier to adjust the temperature because it's a flame and with a coil electric burner you can't really tell if it's accurate with the dial.
I also think that the oven heats up quicker with gas than electric.

Natural gas is a cheaper source in heating your stove/oven than electricity. Your oven will heat up quicker. Also, some people prefer gas burners as food cooks more consistently in pans.

Gas heats up faster and it's a less expensive fuel source. Plus, gas heat tends to have a little more moisture in it compared to electric heat (think of comparing a house with gas heat to electric heat - electric is much drier). This extra moisture helps to get better results from cooking.

Just watch any cooking show on T.V. and see what every professional Chef uses. Try stepping inside of any good restaurant's' kitchen and see what they are using. I'll bet you it is at least 99% gas cooking only. The other 1% don't know what they're doing....Gas is cheaper, more efficient and provides a much better cooking experience....

Some people like gas because it heats up faster and cooks things better. Gas is more for the professionals.
