The human body ought to be considered beautiful if not actually holy, if God created it in His own image. Yet it is considered sinful and disgusting and evil, it must be clothed at all times. Why this hatred of the human body? Where did this come from?

Thank religion for that one. The body is beautiful, it's all that "sinful" crap that's made it disgusting and evil. I don't know the origin of it but my guess it's got to be one of the big 3 (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) if not all!!!

The body is not covered because it is obscene, it covered out of modesty. Before man inherited the knowledge of good and evil through disobedience, people wore no clothes. But when the door to evil was opened into man's life the body was immediately clothed. This was both a spiritually symbolic gesture, as man was no longer clothed in God's righteousness, and a physical gesture to indicate the level of vulnerability to sin that man had become susceptible to.

While the human body is beautiful and can be appreciated through art and other public display without causing a some people to have perverted, lustful, or sexual thoughts, not all humans respond accordingly. Some, in fact, are imprisoned because of how badly they handle sexuality.

The bottom line is that the body is covered to encourage godly attitudes and thoughts toward each other according to what is right before the Lord, as He is a holy God, and because of the tendencies of human nature, not because it is filthy. God does not create disgusting or evil things. In fact, when He had finished creating man, He said "It is good."

You do have to admit, however, that it is really a good thing that we are clothed...some of us would be rather frightening without clothing...

It sounds like heavy on details. That's OK, but you don't have to accept it or even talk about it if it troubles you or anyone else. It is perfectly normal to be both a Catholic and go to some other religion for other purposes. Fellowship is an accepted need of people and important to the health of everyone. So if the Morman Religion is good for you, then so be it, but it does not mean you are not a Catholic. You just need to keep those feelings and convictions private for now if you think it would disturb others. Let them think what they want, but remember that there is a price that you must pay for what they give you. So pay it. The Catholic Church is not going to seek you out and punish you. In fact, they will welcome you as a member when you visit them.

God made man out of the dust of the earth, and breathed a soul into him.Genesis 2:7. God is a spirit, John 4:24. Man is made in the spiritual and moral image of God. (Genesis 1:27) This is God's crowning achievement, Human Beings. However, God did come in the flesh, Jesus. 1 Timothy 3:16.

When Adam partook he received knowledge of good and evil. Satan told Adam to hide, that he was naked. Adam didn't know he was naked. God then provided clothing for Adam to protect him against the elements that he would be exposed to in a fallen world. Clothing which made Adam holy. The human body is reverenced by those who believe they are the temple of God, I cannot answer for those who don't or those who hold views of hating the human body.

The body is supposed to be covered BECAUSE it is holy, as a sign of respect. The naked body IS beautiful; exposing it in a disrespectful manner is obscene. The private parts are very sensitive and require protection. People's feelings about their private parts are also sensitive and require protection. Clothing is an honor and a protection we provide for our bodies. Of course, the specifics vary from one culture to another.

You don't read much I see. Man was made in Gods image before we were clothed in skin. It's in the Bible should you want to look it up.
Appearances are in the eye of the beholder. The body is the temple of God. You do read ?

Yes, I agree. Nudity for everyone! Wooo HOO!

The christian answer to that would be - because anytime you look at the human body you are thinking about sex which is human (somehow) and you are defiling god's holy body (somehow).
Hey, don't blame me, that's their excuse. I think the world would be a better place if everyone got naked on a regular basis.
