9 ‘These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat. 10 But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. 11 They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales—that shall be an abomination to you.

Leviticus 11:9-12 (New King James Version)

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Have you ever tried to get fresh shrimp during a power outage? Here in the south, where I live, people who make their living from shrimp and other seafood could tell you about the massive amounts of $$ it cost them during the hurricanes, when people went without power for weeks--shrimp really doesn't keep very well without refrigeration. Some types of meat can be smoked or salted, but that really doesn't work for shrimp too well.
I noticed, too, that most of the no-no's on that list are carrion eaters. Yuck. I actually got a mild case of trichonosis (sp?) as a kid from bad pork roast--when I was told it was a worm in the meat, it sort of turned me off pork. I mean, so what if the worm is well-cooked? Who wants to eat parasites, even if they are well-done?
If you truly study those old laws in the light of the time and the culture, they will begin to make more sense to you.
Honestly, are you really thinking this stuff through?

Because the Bible was constructed by different authors over at least 3500 years, it is rife with discrepancies of both logic and detail. Not only are there things within it that don't make sense from modern scientific and materialist perspectives, but there are also discrepancies between various manuscript copies of the Bible (300,000 within the New Testament alone). Even within any given modern text of the Bible (such as the King James Version, the NIV, the English Standard Version etc.) there are scores of conflicting facts and moral guidelines.

Everything from descriptions of God's nature and desire for the life of Christ to moral guidelines and prohibitions -- all are riddled with conflicting claims and assertions. Certainly this fact does not invalidate the Bible as a spiritual text. Inaccuracies or conflicting accounts do not invalidate the gems of historic and spiritual truth contained therein -- we need not throw out the baby with the bath water. However, such discrepancies indicate that we would be equally foolish to accept blindly each word or passage of the Bible as an absolute truth, the uncontestable word of God, unless of course we were trying to claim God has a sick sense of humor and is trying to lead us astray by confusing us.

In order for the arguement that being gay is an abomination to stand up it should read: MEN shall not lie with other men as with a woman...It doesn't say that and therefore the YOU in the statement can mean man or woman. Of course many would say it was intended that way so that it addresses being Lesbian also. Now, there's a huge flaw in biblical interpertations of being gay as sinful...That flaw is the prevailing message of the Bible/Reigion is LOVE and since LOVE knows not what gender you are than homosexuality can't be a sin...If it is than it is a Sin to LOVE and that's totally absurd logic. PEACE!

As a jew, the respond isn't any they do no longer seem to be equivalent, the sin of homosexuality is a lot previous large ( in the previous testomony reckoning on the sin, that's the sacrifice you ought to return) and it exchange into shown that homosexuality exchange into partly a large sin. Christians whilst they customary Jesus, they have been waiting to stay together with his teachings and go away into the recent quite than the previous, yet Jesus and the recent testomony do make oblique alerts approximately homosexuality and the "incorrect" of it. yet one humorous ingredient is that, human beings decide for to conceal with a tip of a finger that homosexuality by using non secular standards is misguided: human beings ought to realize that's misguided in lots of social and non secular cultures yet that in the event that they're happy with beiong gay, then they ought to no longer care if this or that asserts its incorrect, do exactly it. in case you care what the Bible, Tora etc... say approximately homosexuality then that could mean which you look ashamed of what the optimum BEING thinks of you as a gay guy or woman...as a result you're fearful of angering the optimum ONE with the aid of fact there's a tender hazard all that's stable.

Ahhh the Leviticus laws- God’s fun chapter of the do’s and don’t of Christianity
Let’s see we have laws on offerings, idolatry, the slaughter of animals, dead animals, and the consumption of blood, ritual cleanliness, mildew, leprosy, bodily discharges, male homosexuality (everybody loves lesbians) 'Thou shall not grind their hips, like the sow of the field. So there. Let’s see we also have laws concerning the deaf, blind, prostitution, beards and keeping blemished people from becoming priests. So with all these rules set in place Christians were able to rewrite them as the prophecy of Jesus and his ultimate crucifixion and sacrifice for our sins. Yay! Now we can eat shrimp and not have to wear beards! Yay Jesus! Except for that homosexuality thing, that is still just not right.

I've never seen scales on a shrimp.

Well, I like mixed fibers, wearing "man clothing" tattoos, and piercings, so even without shrimp (which I thoroughly agree should be an abomination) and homosexuality, I'm still screwed.

Well remember that this is the same Bible that says "An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" and then states to "Turn the other cheek". Go figure... Keep reading, I'm sure you'll find more contradictions!

Christians will also argue that no sin is any greater than any other. So killing is just as bad as disobeying your parents (Thou Shalt Not Kill and Thou Shalt Honor Thy Mother and Father) or drinking alcohol. Hypocrites...

You have to understand the situation. It was hard to get shrimp in the desert . So they made it to be a sin.
I would say leviticus is child compare to John revelation.
First of all to be inspired by god you have to be a gays ( since you refuse females and only want to love GOD (he) . It states in Geneses that GOD is he. SO logicly god wants you to love another male. Therefore eating shrimp and love He is both equaly sin.

God loves you for reading His word. You seem so well versed, or at least you know where to look.

If you really want to make a name for yourself and make a big difference in the world, if you want to grow as a person without being proud, read Matthew 7. Follow it to the letter and you will love what it does for you. Your messages will become more positive, for sure!
