Someone posted earlier that a person having tattoo's cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Now, I've heard that permanatley modifying the body is a sin, but will it not let someone into heaven? B/c I've seen ministers and such with tattoo's, and they say nothing about it. What do you think?

It doesn't really matter because when you are dead you are just that -- dead - not hear anymore - you have stopped existing. You aren't going somewhere else but your body will be either cremated or buried.

I am not even sure why I am responding to such nonsense but here goes! Body modification has been going on for years, it is a form of artistic and sometimes religious expression of a person and his or her beliefs and represents a part of who they/you are. God does not judge people, his children, based on appearances. I am forever grateful for this as everyone else should be. I mean perming your hair, tanning, earrings, makeup, is all modification of the body-does this condemn you to hell or not worthy of receiving a ticket to the kingdom of heaven?? Hello! I think not. Realistically people worry too much about the outside as usual and society standards instead of the inside which is your heart. That is all He cares about.

This is a Jewish belief. Jews believed you cannot modify your body and get into heaven. They were so adamant in fact, they would not bury tattooed Jews in Jewish cemeteries.

However, the reformed temples have now accepted the idea of body art and will bury tattooed Jews in Jewish cemeteries. Most rabbis are pretty quiet on the whole getting into heaven with tattooed bodies though.

The Bible speaks against certain bodily markings that are used to show that you are a member of a group or culture that is in some way against God.

Some people pull the verses out of context and claim that ANY tattoo or piercing is forbidden.

Certainly, we are to treat our bodies as temples and as gifts, but that does not seem to limit our options to decorate them.

Sin is those thoughts and actions that seperate us from God. If your tattoo, etc. in some way pulls you away from God- THEN it is a sin. Otherwise- don't seat it!

Personally- I am not a fan of tats or piercings. I don't the look of most of them (rather raw and nasty to my eye), and I far prefer the sublty of unadorned human skin.

However, I cannot find anything in my studies to suggest that God will automatically judge based on this.

well, it depends on a cultural point of view... B/C I grew up in a Latin country.. were people believe Ur body is the temple of the holy spirit... therefore u have to treat it as a sacred thing... Therefore tattoos are not the right thing to do..... However, Some cultures believe that is embellishing their body for GOD. after all.... your body stays here... what goes to heaven is your soul... and that one only has all ur good and bad actions... so, I think that is what matters...

It does say in the bible that your body is a temple and is supposed to be pure. But it all goes back to what you believe in. It says in the bible sex is supposed to be between a man and a woman only. It depends what you believe in. I dont agree in Gay marriages but I dont mind tattoos. I dont think God will NOT let you in because you have a tattoo..but dont get like skulls and knives and all that stuff get something that will witness to others about Jesus like a cross or the christian fish etc etc.
good luck in making your decision

I think that if you follow all of the rules of the old testament you will contradict the rules of the new testament. The old testament also tells people to burn offerings, not wear jewlry, stone people to death, not eat pork. Do we follow all those rules? People pick what they want to listen to and ignore the rest. I do not think God cares if you have ink on your body. If he is that anal I don't want to go up there with a bunch of anal people for eternity anyway.

I have 3 tats and they actually mean something to me,a turning point in my life and my rededication to Jesus. We arent bodies with souls, we are SOULS with bodies that turn to dust after our time here is over. I dont think that ink goes deep enough to reach our souls!! God Bless

If your Salvation is based of laws, then you will by no mean enter in God's kingdom, for He will judge you by all His laws. But if you believe that Christ has the power to save you and you accept His gift of His eternal life, you will be saved, for you put your trust in Him and your law is the law of His mercy and grace. just as Adam sinned and brought judgment and destruction to all of us, one man's righteousness without sin can bring life to all. Christ call Himself the fountain of life, living water. He was sent by God for all of those God has predestined to know His mercy and love forever. Throughout all the old testament, He clearly said to the children of Israel that the Just Shall Live By faith, but they thought that the law can save them that they were just and were under the protection of Abraham, but God promised Abraham Salvation through faith. Our faith is based on Christ, not our self, for we all have sinned and deserve God's judgment. We are all born under sin's dominion, because we inherit it from Adam, so it is impossible to save by the law alone.
