US immigration protesters scuffle in New York

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. immigration activists clashed at the site of the World Trade Center on Wednesday when an anti-illegal immigration group called for secure borders to avoid a repeat of the September 11 attacks and counterprotesters yelled "racists go home."

Supporters of the Minuteman Project, which patrols the U.S.-Mexican border for illegal immigrants, and immigrant rights activists, who showed up at the Minuteman event, became involved in a heated argument.

Jim Gilchrist and Jerome Corsi, authors of "Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders," were whisked away when some immigrant rights supporters broke through a police barrier and scuffled with Minutemen supporters.

so i guess they are more like what they claim us to be. but no one attacked them at their protest.

wow mendi8 so minutemen have to stay out of immigrant towns does not New York still belong to America ? did not the pro team hold their racist rally's in some of the anti towns? please you should know better also they were there to dedicate a book that Jim Gilchrist and Jerome Corsi, authors of "Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders," to the families of the world trade center ,and this is their country they can protest where ever they choose.

It is not the first time I have seen stuff like that. The illegals and their supporters are really showing their true colors now. They are resorting to violence , and to be honest i am not surprised. I see someone here asked you what they did to provoke them...what kind of nonsense is that. I would imagine what they said to provoke them was illegals go home, and or protect our borders or something along those lines, and she has the nerve to refer to the minutemen as klan?..That is just pathetic...It is truly amazing how these supporters can justify their feeble attacks. The illegals have lost...they know it..we know it...but there are still people like that young person who is still so willing to spew her lies. Do you think that the illegals and their supporters know that THEY are the ones who showed how ridicules their position is? All we had to do is sit back and watch them fumble their way through. WE worked half as hard to get the illegals out and we are victorious.

Well needless to say in regards to the minutemen I am a bit confused.They claim to protect the border yet I haven't heard or seen them post pictures of them protecting the Canadian border.And though at first what they were doing seemed noble now it seems its just about money.I mean aside from selling t-shirts,hats on their webpage now they sell books?Where will the money for all these things they sell go?Are they contributing to help build a border fence or are they using it for their own personal use.Recently I ran across some article (which I will try to find again) about how some money donations made by one of these anti illegal organizations dissapeared.Seems maybe the people who donate to these organizations should keep a close eye on where their money is going before it goes "poof".

Good article. I can see why pro illegal supporters are so violent. They throw bottles at little old ladies now disobey the law and break through barriers. The violent nature of those individuals. I know now that they can not simply voice their oppostion, they will turn to physical violence. I support the Minutemen, they are great. I love when they give water and medical attention to the illegal aliens in our hot desert before they send them back. Racists, no way. Humanitarian volunteers who secure America's border? Yes.

It seems like the minutemen understand how to hold a peaceful, constructive protest, while the pro-illegals are a bunch of rabid, violent,mongrels. Mendi8a just can't seem to accept that she shares her precious ideals with people of this caliber.
I am proud to be a Coloradoan, because we have finally taken action against illegals. Write your governor and tell him to follow Bill Owens' example on the immigration issue!

I support the Minutemen, I will go and buy that book. Make sure the book stores have it. It seems some know how to protest decently and others don't. I agree the Minutemen are the true humanitarians.

mendia is really going off the wall - she's really againt the first amendment, huh? This is the first real-world example I've come across on the very real you've convinced me now attack on the first amendment. I wonder what the law will be if Bush drops the borders - in Mexico you can have sex at 12 and have kids - is that the way it's going to be here? And Mendia knows that's the age in Mexico she can't disprove that.

Mexico's going to lose this one In A Big Way. 150 or so years ago, they lost a war with the United States. The 'sour grapes' crowd in Mexico has now developed quite a Following, apparently, for my nickel that border fence can't go in fast enough.
