no as long as it was wrapped up and won't emit odors! i think it is fine, did she give a reason for why it was inappropriate? i guess i can see how she might be put off by it.. kinda like if you wrapped up a used pad and threw it in the garbage.. a bathroom probably would have been a better place. it's nice to see you care about how YOU are doing though =) some people wouldn't think twice, and blame the other person for being too uptight or something.

Rude, no. Inconsiderate, yes.
I agree with the replies that say the trash can by the dressing room is not appropriate for the diaper. Trash is probably not picked up on a regular basis by the dressing rooms and the cash registers.
A more appropriate place would have been the store's bath room or the diaper changing station located in the mall or elsewhere.
You didn't want to stick you hand in the waste basket to retrieve the diaper, but the clerk probably had to. I would be mad, too.
Another solution would be to carry a small trash bag- small kitchen trash bags. And, put the dirty diaper in that and dispose of the diaper/trash bag in a more appropriate spot.

You should know how bad dirty diapers in the trash smell...why would you leave one in the trash in a clothing store next to a dressing room where other people walk by all day long? 99.9% of public restrooms provide a diaper changing station w/ seperate cans for diaper disposal. I have 2 children (4 & 6), and would not have even thought about doing this. I would have been mad if I were this woman also. So, yes, you were totally wrong.

I don't believe you were rude just a little absent-minded about where to properly dispose of a dirty diaper. As you left the store there was probably a trash can outside that would have been an excellent place to put it. However, I do think the lady that works in the dressing room was very rude. She could have asked you politely to remove it or simply reminded you that next time you should find a more appropriate place to dispose of child's dirty diaper.

If they have a trash can in the bathroom, that's what you should have used. I'll have to agree, that dumping a "dump" right beside someone's workstation in a public area is not heygenic or pleasant. However -
If they didn't have a trashcan, then it serves them right - although, to be polite, you should have asked "What do I do with this s**t, you don't seem to have a garbage can in the washroom?"
You would think if they have a change table, they would have proper disposal facilities.
If you chose to use someplace like a dressing room that was not properly intended for that task (because the toilet was too far / too difficult) then they're doing you a favour by letting you use it for a purpose it wasn't intended to for. It would be polite not to dump on them (so to speak) for doing you a favour.
If the dirty diaper was too much for you to carry for a few hundred feet to any outside garbage can, imagine how much they want it right beside them all day.
I suggest for next time, carry a few of those plastic grocery bags in your diaper bag to wrap the mess tightly; then take it to an outdoor can or a dumpster.

I think she was a little out of line. She represents that store and she should want you to come back I think the bathroom might have been a better place to change the diaper, but you did where you did and it wasnt such a big deal. At most she could have taken out the trash after you left.

i think you really should dump it in the trash in the bathroom.
honestly i think she may have overreacted, but she was going to have to work right next to a smelly diaper the rest of the day so i understand her point of view. I think you should dispose of them in the bathroom trash if at all possible. If the bathroom didn't have trash, maybe see about there being a dumpster outside. Outside trash would be better. But you have to consider all the options and how difficult they were and the entire situation to determine the level of rudeness of what you did.

Incredibly rude.
You should have found somewhere with a changing station.
When you are away from home you should always carry a plastic bag to dispose of dirty diapers.
In the scenario you describe you were very wrong. You should have wrapped up the diaper in a bag, put it in the DIAPER BAG, and carried it to the first appropriate trash can you could find.

yes that is rude. a trash can at a department store is not an appropriate place for a nasty diaper. now all other customers that go in that store will have to smell your baby's mess for the rest of the day, including the people that work there! that is very rude. and yes, you should have gotten it out of the trash, you touched it to put it in there! the only place diapers are appropriate is in a RESTROOM trashcan.

what you did was not particularely rude...I don't think. But, I guess I would have taken the diaper far from anyone's work station. I feel like alot of people are just really numb to the way they can make someone else feel. And, not to be cold, but it seems like some of the biggest offenders are parents of babies and small children. You were peobably just one of many mothers to bring a baby into the store that day. And it probably wasn't just the act of you throwing a stinky diaper in her garbage can that made her go off. You may have walked in right after the mom with the kid that spilled his Slurpee, and the mom with the screaming toddler hanging from the hem of her skirt, and the mom with five kids under six who were running amok, wrecking every display, as she strolled around oblivious to it all. it's all just hard to take after awhile. She was bound to go off on someone.
