Think they are for thinning hair. My mother-in-law took them for about 3 months and they made her feel so ill she had to stop.

Kelp is a variety of seaweed.
They contain a wide spectrum of trace minerals. Some of these minerals are quite hard to find in land-based plants. Examples are selenium and iodine for instance.
As such, taking kelp tablets can iron-out sub-clinical deficiencies that might arise from an inadequate intake of these minerals. Iodine, for instance, is used by the body to make thyroid hormones which in turn regulate the metabolism.
If you are a woman then taking kelp tablets that are mixed with alfalfa is especially helpful. This is because the alfalfa also contains phyto-estrogens etc that can help with hormonal balance.
