Enterprise-used for drop testing
Challenger-exploded on take off
Colombia-burned up on re-entry
Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavor-still in service till 2010. There is no diffrence between them.

The very first one was "Enterprise". Guess which TV show fans had a letter-writing campaign to pick that name?

Enterprise was a "test-bed" where they worked out what the shuttle equipment would look like and how the equipment fit together, construction techniques, etc. As a result, it was very overweight compared to the final 5 shuttles and never intended to fly in space. It's only been used as a showpiece and musem exhibit. (Not sure if it was the one used for the "drop tests" from the 747 for landing practice). Not sure where it is now. I'm sure Google could tell you.

The other 5 (down to 3 now) are as listed in the previous answer.

I think they started out with five. Discovery, Atlantis, Challenger, Columbia, and Endeavour. Challenger blew up right after lift off in 1986 and Columbia broke apart coming down to earth in 2003. The next shuttle launch is at the end of this month. NASA will be launching Atlantis.
