between jewish christians or the orthodox christians?

if they both believe in jesus, why must there be a difference?

and if both the protestants' and catholics' teachings are from the same root, why are there variations in the current teachings?

Me- I don't know who you are referring to when you say "jewish" as opposed to "orthodox" christians. Sorry
As to why they might differ, it is rather simple. While they both might "believe in Jesus", they believe in Him in different ways, perhaps even drastically different ways.

You also write:and if both the protestants' and catholics' teachings are from the same root, why are there variations in the current teachings?

Me- There are different teachings for this reason: One of or both of these christian groups are not the true Church and so have lost and/or added to the Apostolic Faith over time.

Ask yourself where the one Church, the Body of Christ, is?
May God bless your searching.

I'm not sure about all of the differences, but a lot is doctrine or tradition.
