Because they are jerks... I appreciate when someone asks if they can see my id at the bank or when I make credit card purchases.

I used to work for a bank... The first guy had a good answer... not practical but good nonetheless... They just get so cranky sometimes.. I don't know why. I try to blow it off and tell myself that they're having a bad day. Fact of the matter is they're probably feeling like just another number by the time they make it through the line and having to be asked for ID only depersonalizes the situation even further...

Banking isn't like it used to be where bankers and tellers knew all their customers by name....My older customers would get upset if I asked the for ID... "But I've been banking here for 25 years!" they'd exclaim 1/2 the time- Well that may be the case but I still can't access your account witout verifying your identity! It's just one of the not-so-fun parts of the job...

Wow, I live in Florida, which has to be one of the rudest states in the nation, and I have yet to see anyone get upset at a bank for requesting ID. That's standard practice.

Just say something along the lines of what was sugguested, "Someone tried to access your account yesterday to remove funds without ID. I didn't allow them, as they did not have ID. It is standard practice to verify the identity of the person requesting funds as it is not a PIN based merchant location transaction."

Lol. I have done that before because I know who I am, and I feel that the bank I go to regularily should know me too! However, I do and have learned to appreciate the fact that the people at the bank ask for my I.D., it shows that they are paying attention and that they want to be sure the money is given to the person who it belongs to.

I think people are still a bit naive... I think that what goes through many people's minds is something like "Of course I am me - who else would be accessing my account?" There are also people which the "me me me mine mine mine" mentality who feel that you are "imposing on their rights" and are probably thinking something like "How dare you impede MY right to access MY money?"

If it helps, I always thank clerks who ask for my ID. I was a victim of identity theft several years ago and I know how hellish it is.

you know what? I don't know. I always follow policy and have my money and ID and account number ready by the time I get up to the counter. I am sorry for your frustration.

Probably because their immediate reaction to something getting between them and their money is hostility, they forget the reason it's in the bank is for security. Incidentally, my mom is so well known in her bank they don't ask.

When someone gets upset, tell them that someone tried to withdraw all their money yesterday, but you didn't let them because they didn't have any ID.

They are not used to it? Why not have a sign that says please produce your ID to get them ready and used to the idea.
