So you're being selfish for asking MIL to babysit one child, and they are not being selfish for asking her to babysit TWO children? What's that all about? I've known countless couples who have regularly asked their in laws to babysit. Its commonplace; at least where I live. I see a couple of possibilities. First, is it possible that your daughter is in some way not as well behaved around other people as she could be? I'm only asking because you said your MIL finds it hard to add her to the mix when she is already babysitting the boys. If there is some behavior issue, you should correct it now; as the difficulty level will increase as she gets older. Another possibility...since your daughter is the only granddaughter, perhaps your MIL is partial in some way to her, and your BIL sees this and resents it. Or even if this is not actually the case, maybe BIL or his fiancee developed a perception along these lines. Either way, BIL and his fiancee sound immature to me. For now, why not see if there are any daycare facilities in your area that offer 24 hour service? If so, visit them and check them out. If you find one you like, ask if you could occasionally use their services for babysitting. Then you and your husband could go out by yourselves once in a while! And you wouldn't have to take her to the office. But don't cancel your anniversary plans. You deserve to celebrate. See if anybody in your family could babysit. Or change the reservation date to one where your MIL could.

Try 'in your head'. It's soooo personal (or should be) how can anybody else tell you what to say. Hey Silver Wedding - surely you can't be afraid of saying the wrong thing at this stage.

Oh please! You've had 25 years to think of something to say, and you want to use words someone else has written! Forget a speech and just say something from the heart.

If you can't write your own speech then you shouldn't be speaking.
