Well since Mel Gibson is catholic I think people would just laugh. Your point is well taken though. I think if Israel wasn't front page news right now it would not be the talk around town. Next week it will be something or some one else. People have very short memories.

You bet! As he made a lot of money off “The Passion of the Christ,” if his slur was against Catholics, the church and followers would most definitely have a hay day with him.

I think that the focus should be on the drunk driving charge than the religious comment. He could have killed someone or himself and that would have had a lot more impact than a drunken comment.
