Good luck getting a logical answer on that one. Next ask them how they can believe in Free Will and Prophecy at the same time.
Hooray for religious paradox.

This idea was the source of Gnosticism: they thought that a perfect God couldn't create imperfect man, so they said that the perfect God created a slightly less-perfect one, and that one created a lesser one, and so on, until finally a god was made who was so far removed that he could create man. The Gnostics believed that we were all "children of a lesser god."
It's just as wrong today as it was then. Are humans imperfect? Imperfect for what? We are perfectly suited for our purpose, which is to obey God. An imperfect human would be one that didn't have the ability to choose; that would be a perfect robot.
Let me give you an example:
Would you rather have a battery-powered toy dog, or a real dog (assuming you are a dog person and not a cat person)? Would you rather have a real child or a baby doll? One who didn't have the ability to choose wouldn't love God; he'd just be going through the motions.

QUOTE: "A creature with the ability to choose harmful decisions was imperfect in the first place" END QUOTE
I think this is your opinion and assumption, not necessarily fact. What's imperfect about having choices? Should He have made us puppets on a string? Is that perfect?

'Perfect' is a an open ended term. 'Perfection' as God is, is not necissarily the way we view it. We have this one, set idea of what 'perfection' is, and whithin that definition, God would be imperfect. But there are many different types of perfection- when a parent tells their kid that they're perfect the way they are, for instance. The parent honestly believes it, so isn't it possible that the kid is perfect in one way- not the conventional way, obviously, but in some, specialized, niche kinda way? One could argue that creating something with the potential for imperfection render the creator imperfect, but couldn't one also argue that by creating something with absolute infite potential for anything- including imperfection- is a form of perfection as well? When a man makes a computer that is capable of equations he is not, does that make the computer more intelligent in totallity than the man who created him?
Just my personal opinion, but more than anything I believe that there is room in this world for every single person's individual belief.

It all comes back to free will. The imperfect thing would have been to make little people that run around and do everything that God told them to. Little machines. A machine can neither love or hate you, it just is. If you look around you will see how much people value their free will, their freedom to choose what they like and don't like, want and don't want, in their lives. And since we are made in the image of God I think that's a reflection of Him.
Anyone who has ever been in a position of authority knows that something can be your will and be against your will at the same time. It's like a mother who tells her children that they are going to have to learn to keep their room neat on their own. She's tired of nagging on them, from now on it's their responsibility. A few day's latter she comes back in and the room is a mess with toys all over the floor, the beds aren't made and candy wrappers and papers spilling over the garbage can. It's not what she willed but it was her will that made the messy room possible
(C.S. Lewis, roughly)

GOD is a perfect GOD, YES! HE created humans and they are humanly perfect or perfectly human! That's why you are also a humanly perfect or perfectly human being. But as a humanly perfect being, you are still imperfect in the eyes of GOD. There is only one perfect GOD. HE created you and me to worship, follow and to serve HIM. Remember, HE is a jealous GOD and ask you to worship no other but HIM. There is also one perfect you, because you are the only one created uniquely by GOD. There is no other person in this world same as you, that's why you are perfectly you!
God created imperfect humans? Yes, to remind us that we cannot stand equal to HIM. GOD did not create perfect GOD but imperfect humans. And creating imperfect humans does not make GOD imperfect!

That is a real lack of understanding of the way human beings are, and of how God knows His creation.
The answer is as clear as the light of day.
If God had created perfect human beings, they would have been terribly proud, and God loathes pride very very much.
Consider that the situation with Adam and Eve WAS a sin of pride by itself. They ate the fruit because they were told that they would be equal to God.
Now, had they been perfect, the situation would have been so, so bad, that it would have been totally impossible to understand

God is Becoming. It is not a perfectly complete energy or we would not exist. It is growing and learning as we grow and learn. The system is perfect in it's imperfection.

I have a totally cool theory about this love to share:
I think our souls are actually pieces of God. We are sent here to perfect ourselves (or our piece of God). We keep reincarnating and learning lessons and/or a deeper version of the same lessons until our souls have gained enough knowledge to become a part of God again. That is why we come here imperfect to perfect our souls so when we return to the creator he is perfect. Do you get it.

God created perfection, because God is perfect. "God said it it Good!"
We messed it up and caused sin and imperfection, when Adam sinned in the garden.
God gave us freewill to choose, and we still have that freewill.
Ezek 22:30
30 "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.
NIV
God gave us freewill, when we choose not to listen and fulfill prophecy, God looks for someone who will fulfill what He wants done. God is God, what He sets out to accomplish He will complete.
