Choose your breed accordingly...if your going to have children certain breeds are better than others...and although I've have a dog before and after having a child, I think there is a stronger bond if the dog comes after the child...I couldn't really tell you that is a fact but just gut feeling...Being the first year make sure your surroundings are appropriate for a pet and that if there is a chance you may move in the near future that it too is appropriate...another consideration is your newly weds...dogs take up alot of time...they should be considered a family member and are you ready to share this quality time with another...its OK to be selfish now but not when you have the dog and you and your spouse are never around to spend time with your pet...I love animals , especially dogs...and so will you...good luck.

I would wait a year or so. Having a dog is just like having a kid, you have to either bring the dog everywhere with you or make arrangements for a dog-sitter. This can seriously damper any spur of the moment road trips or vacations. We got a dog 1 month before we got married and, although I would not trade my dog in for anything, the only vacation that we have been able to take as a married couple over the past 6 years was our honeymoon. It is a big decision to think it over.

Only if you have the time a dog requires, especially if your thinking of a puppy. You have to housebreak them, take them for walks, and all other training you may want. A dog takes time and most people are so excited about getting a dog they don't stop to think if they have the time that a pet deserves. So please take this to heart. There are too many dogs out there that people just leave in the backyard and never pay attention to. So, make sure you really want a dog and have time then figure out what type of dog is the best fit for your lifestyle.Check out these websites to help you:

A dog is like a child. Since you are newly married, wait a year or two. Have the freedom to up and go when you want if you want. If you get a dog, you'll have to arrange for someone to feed walk and take dog to relieve itself. The first few years of a marriage, I think, are those years where the only tie you have is between you and your husband.

I would wait due to the fact that you will be sharing love and have a lot of demands on you. Enjoy your time alone for a bit then bring up the idea. In many ways it is like a child. See how the dog thing works out before you have children. Also watch the dog wishperer on National Geographic Channel. That will help you to treat the dog properly.

If you have a dog that is capable of being home during the day alone (like if you both work) than sure-- a dog or any pet is a family member and maybe if you find that taking care of them is a plus or minus it might let you know if you and your spouse want children which are far more responsibility.
God Bless you and the start of the rest of your married life

You mean that you want to know if it's okay to have a dog during your first year of marriage?
If you want a dog and your spouse agrees, there's no problem.
If your spouse doesn't want a dog that could cause dissension if your spouse is set against having a dog.
I think that a dog is good for a family to have, but it should be agreeable with both partners in the marriage.

According to some experts the first year should be spent without any serious responsibilities such as a dog. The reason being is that the first year should be spent fully bonding with your mate with any distractions. Some experts also save a t.v. shouldn't be in the house either.

The first year probably isn't a good idea, as you are adjusting to married life and eachother. You need to put all your strength and power into both of you making this adjustment with as few bumps as possible and this would get in the way the first year.

Miss Priss, by your name I am going to assume that you like to have nice things. In that case I am going to suggest a big fat NO! We have a dog , when we first got him he had his little puppy accidents all over my carpets. Cleaning it made me want to vomit. He still sometimes vomits on my carpets if he has an upset stomach! He also likes to eat the trash out of the trashcan (I had to move cans into the laundry room so he can't knock them over) or a groundhog, bird, baby bunny ect. dead animal smell in the yard is foul. Dog HAir,yuck! Cleaning up the yard so no steps in it yuck! Don't forget going away for long periods of time, you need to get home to feed ect. or pay for sitter to go away on a nice vacation. Vet bills! Hair on your clothes(you'll look like a dog person) Dog smell in your house. Barking at everything including flys.My sliding glass door has smudges I clean 5 times a day(the paper towel is always yellowy/brown gross) I love a clean house that smells nice,a dog makes it so hard. I now need new carpets. I constantly clean dog hair off the base boards and I think my sofa smells like dog no matter how much I clean and I vacuum like mad. I swore I'd never get a dog. My husband wanted a dog, the kids wanted a dog I felt like a controling wife and mother, so I got them their dog. Why should I deny them a dog. Now who do you think does all the work?
UGH! WAnt my dog? He's really sweet, I swear he won't be any trouble for you at all.
