I want to get my son's attention so he won't try this again. I think I will get in our car and play the CD. I want to rattle him so he won't do this again. Any better advice? I am NOT going to ignore this, I have always trusted him and this was the first very deceptive thing he has done. Has anyone got their child to stop listening to this garbage? How did you specifically handle the situation?

I am very young at heart, I am not talking about everyday rap that just rhymes, that is fine. I am talking about the song that mentions forty times who the guy F-----, and how he did it!!! FYI I only like top 40 and my son actually thinks I'm very cool but this song goes way too far!!

Garbage is in the ear of the beholder, though I detest much rap, also.
Find out from your son why he likes the music. I would get the lyrics written down so you can see what you are hearing...makes a bold statement. Ask him what about these lyrics he thinks are good. Tell him you don't appreciate him listening to music that goes against your wishes. But you must tell him why you don't want him listening to it. That is why printing the lyrics is good. At the end of all this, and it may take a few days, ask for a pledge from him...I have 6 sons, and I have always respected them, but stand firm in my beliefs, which included music. Be firm, Mom.

Their pre-teens and ur an adult.. realize that what's garbage to u is music to them.. if u don't want to encourage him to listen to this type of music them tell him why and stop buying it for him..
now if he's buying it on his own then there will be no way in he!! that u can stop him from buying it himself or from listening to it when ur not around..
i would just have a sit down w/him and ask him why he likes this type of music.. as a parent u should be open minded and let him know that music has a very big influence over people and that he is his own person so hopefully he'll be a leader and not a follower..

You shouldn't punish your child for displaying a preference for a certain type of music just because it's filthy. I happen to like several rap songs just because they've got a good beat and a catchy rhythm. If you ignore the words, they -sound- good. Maybe he enjoys the sound, not the lyrics. Music is something that people can relate to because something (not necessarily the words) strikes a chord with them. It speaks for them in a way that they can't. You should talk to him about why he's listening to this music and just make sure that he's not taking it as "advice" rather than saying This Music Is Evil. Let him broaden his horizons.

Unfortunatly, its hard to just tell him no.He will listen to it somewhere else.Explain to him that the lyrics are wrong and bad.Teaching him wrong from right is better than making him want to rebel. And if you do decide to take it away replace it with something similar that isnt so vulgar. My daughter is 14.She listens to this kind of music but knows the lyrics are bad,she is a straight a student in the 9th grade.no boyfriend, sex,or drugs. So im a pretty proud momma.

Welp, I can distnictly remember having a cassette tape and listening to it--my mother heard it and immediately ripped it out of the tape player and threw it away....what was it? You're going to laugh....Vanilla Ice hahaha...yeah years ago! Now that song doesn't seem that bad. considering what they play NOW...but she felt it was inappropriate and didn't let me listen to it....along with other kinds of Rap music...I wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons either...You know what....I think you taking the cd is fine... YOU ARE HIS PARENT! Good job.
Unlike most of the other posters-- YES YOU CAN stop him from listening to that crap...at least in YOUR HOME...I'm 24 years old, married and live with my husband in our own place...and when I go to my moms...its still "MY roof My rules"
Thats what's wrong with this country. Parents let their kids run wild and do whatever they please...with no discipline...because now if you discipline your kids...you're an abuser...Thats rubbish...If more people would control things their kids are doing and actually care about where their kids are, who they're with and even what type of music they like this would be a much better place to live and kids wouldnt grow up to be thugs.
I think I would definately let your son know that you disapprove of the song and let him know why. tell him that if he can listen to that music when he's older, but he's too young to listen to that stuff and you dont like it and you dont want it in your house...
good luck! and keep up the good parenting :)

well, being a 14 year old, and i listen to that unedited stuff by like David Banner, and like 50 Cent, i think that if he knows that it sends the wrong message and that the song is just a song and that the artists probably havent even done any of the stuff in the song, its ok, basically im trying to say that, if he knows that the song sends the wrong message and deosnt pull any of that stuff, let him do it

Just get an edited version, stopping someone from listening to the music they like is wrong.

What you should do is learn the lyrics to the song. Then when he has his friends over sing the lyrics, but only to the music of some Frank Sinatra song that should mortify him.

well...what i do to listen to that stuff...because my mom thinks the same way u do... is that i put all of the songs of that on a burt cd and not put the song names on it so she doesn't know that that cd has the bad stuff on it...so check all of his cds....
i stopped though because it got old and boring so just let him listen to it...probablyin the car because like you said...it will supprise him...and after that...ask him why he likes it and is it any better then allof the other music out there??

that's stupid and irresponsible on her area as a discern. whilst i exchange into 13 years previous, all my acquaintances have been into doing selfmade tattoos with india ink. all of us theory it exchange into the best ingredient and we in lots of situations enable different acquaintances "ink" us. i'm 28 now, a mom, and that i've got those grotesque unrecognizable blobs on my ankle and thigh. I refuse to positioned on a go well with or sandals, and that i believe particularly awkward in circumstances the place i'm nude (wellbeing care expert appt., etc.) With a family members to help, i've got not got the money for to have them bumped off. i'm going to in all likelihood flow to the grave with those grotesque blobs that I as quickly as theory have been the main suitable. I basically be apologetic approximately it. i'm no longer against all tattoos of direction. yet, make sure to be of an age the place you are able to decide for properly what you go with for completely inked on your physique. And by using all ability, it is going to be performed by using somebody with years of journey! What you think of is cool once you're 12, 13, 14 years previous...is purely no longer cool once you're an grownup. This mom ought to have adequate brains to realize that. no longer in basic terms is she completely "scarring" her very own baby, I doubt she is experienced adequate in the tattoo arts to be performing some tasteful stuff. long tale short: that's a stupid thought and it makes me sick. If there's no longer some style of regulation approximately this, then there truthfully must be one!
