What is the best way to respond to critical or insulting email from a good (?)friend?

Sit on it for a while. Maybe they were having a bad day. Unless you want to loose the friend, don't be critical back.

Stop reading them and put the name in as spam. No one needs to be treated this way. If they are a good friend tell them that this is disrespectful and unacceptable. You can get other friends that aren't abusive. If you respond to them all you are doing is feeding her negativity. Let her think what she wants, but you don't have to participate. Set boundries or end the friendship. Why would you want to be friends with someone that treats you like that.

Critical is different from insulting. Maybe you need the criticism and then you answer, "Thank you."

Ignore insults, but then is it really an insult or are you just being thin skinned.
