age is nothing to be embarrassed about. you are there in class because you want to be, and the younger ones are ther because they have to be. you will get the most learning from any class you are in because it is important to you to achieve, to get ahead in life, and to aquire more knowledge.i'm sorry your father caused you to have no confidence in yourself early in your life, but you do know now that he was the reason. your doctor was being kind when he said only the uneducated in life would not understand you. i would call them dummies. however, maybe what he meant was that they never experienced what you did, and could not understand, and that's why he was being kind to them. you must work to believe in yourself, keep studying, know that you are where you need to be to accomplish your goals, and you will get your degree. the old wounds will take time to overcome. you say your father did not stop beating you and your mother until the doctor became involved. maybe he was only doing what was done to him, and knew no other way. give him a chance to grow, but get your degree first. then you can teach him about how much more there is to life than living what you have learned by a parent who only knew one way of life. my prayers go with you.

Never be ashamed of who you are. It doesn't matter what age you are. The important this is to continue educating yourself for the rest of your life.
Sorry your dad beat you, mine did that to me too, but now I'm 53 years old and smile because he was never able to beat the love out of me and he in a way did me a favor because it is my mission in life to no be like him but remember what he did so as not to do it to others.
Keep in mind---God doesn't make junk. You are perfect just the way you are. You keep on keeping on!!!!

I wasn't embarrassed about going to high school when I was 18. So you should be embarrassed about attending classes in your 16 years old.
