Bakewell tart??

A girl in our office did, including the metal case, and caused a fire! We just got evacuated and had the fire brigade in. Office smells yucky now...

But why would you?!

Haha we just got this email round, no mention of not putting metal in though!

After our unfortunate fire incident today as a result of a microwave, please note the following:-

1) Never leave food unattended in the mircrowave

2) Always check the timing recommendations for the food/drink you are heating up

3) If smoke/sparks come from the microwave, if possible, disconnect the electricity source (BUT DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER)

4) Please inform your nearest Fire Warden or Manager.

Microwaving a bakewell tart I can understand. But with the metal case, you'd have to be pretty thick to do that.

Either that, or the microwave is something this girl hasn't seen before. Your choice.

Well.. that is not terribly unnormal.. If a person has never usesd a microwave, they would not know that you cannot put anything metalic or any paper products in it...(paper products means paper towls, etc). So.. she just did not know about microwaves and some people from the back woods have never seen a microwave so have patience with her.. NOT patients as a result of her.

I bet she knew exactly what she was doing but sometimes the urge to do something that we know we shouldn't becomes too overpowering.

I once pressed the button to set off the fire alarm system when I was in work and got the building evacuated.

My brain was telling me not to do it, but I just couldn't stop my finger from pushing that button. Luckily, nobody ever knew it was me apart from my friend who was with me at the time. My boss was really angry because we had lost a days work and I think I was suspected as the culprit, but nobody ever let on.

I listened to my brain from then on.

basically people do not know it is dangerous to use metal inside a microwave when it smelting point is generally very high. so they thnk it doesnt matter in a microwave. make sure to remind this to the person who uses a microwave infront of u. even all plastics cant be used in a microwave. most will melt. so check on the plastic case whether it is. glass is the best thing to use i you are not sure.

what is a bakewell tart? Yeah I did that when I was 7, putting metal in a microwave, but a grown adult?! What an idiot!

Some people just don't think. It's human nature to make mistakes.. At least you know she'll never do it again!

By the way if you ever want to destroy a CD the best way is the microwave... Plus it looks cool in the dark. Not that I would know...

No honestly. I think she might have mistaken it for a conventional oven. It may look quite alike. I really wish manufactures can have a large warning etched onto the door of the microwave to warn users instead of putting in the hardcopy operating manual. Who reads them anyway?

what's a bakewell tart? sometimes frozen food comes with microwaveable trays that look like it's metal even if it's not. maybe she thought it was one of them. but then again, i had a friend who microwaved aluminum foil and almost burned her boyfriend's house down! so i guess it's stupidity!!
