I run 5 days a week on the treadmill. Not only because it is easier on your joints, but it is also a lot easier to control the weather indoors. It's not healthy to be running in 100 degree heat, not to mention the smog and other polutants you are breathing in. I think some people like to run outdoors because of the change of scenery...I admit the treadmill can get a little boring...Thats why I am always sure to have my mp3 player and crank up the volume. Some other good things about the treadmill vs. street running: You always have somewhere to place your water, You can stop to use the restroom and get right back on if needed, you can keep a steadier pace, and if your treadmill is in your home, you can wear whatever you want.

LOL well the dreadmill, as you call it, is probably better on your joints but unless you have it in front of a TV it's going to get boring really quicly. Anyway if your joints are the concern then really the eliptical machine is the way to go I think.
Now if you really want to do it right but don't want to join a gym then look for the local school that has a track and run there.
But then again with the right shoes running on concrete probably doesn't have to be too bad.
But I'm just guessing. Not a runner.

I was about to mention the stress on the joints, but you are very aware of that. I suppose the exercise benefits will be the same. Running outside would be less boring because of the scenery, but you can put your treadmill in front of the tv and watch your favorite soap while you run.

Outside, definitely.
You get fresh air (depending on where you jog, i guess) and a change of scenery (which takes the monotony out of running).
Furthermore, a treadmill, by virtue of it moving, imparts a reactionary force on your body which makes it easier for you, thus having a less intensive workout.
Lastly, unless you have some special-build treadmill with shock absorbers, I think both would exert the same strain on your knees.

Well a treadmill is designed to absorb your impact, depending on how much you spend... but I still feel that running outside - either grass or cement works more of your muscles and doesn't leave you brain dead. Sand is the most ideal for your joints and will work you out TWICE as hard, especially your calves.

Concrete is the worst for your bones! If it is about your health as well as your bones, I would say a treadmill is better. However, if it is about your health and the scenery, I would say concrete. Running on concrete once in a while isn't as bad as running on it all the time.

i think its better-running outside because it will help u to remain or get slim and trim and we can enjoy the nature too while walking and on a treadmill its so you feel a lot sweaty and its packed up in a room but by walking outside you may feel fresh too.so better run outside.
good luck.

Well I think it would be better to run outside .First you get fresh air, second you got scenery to help you run along the way, third there are so many places to run .Just think how many people you could meet along the way. Then again maybe its just me I love the outdoors!
