I've had to transport my kids from time to time, and there hasn't been enough seatbelts. My friend has told me that it's fine to hold my child on my lap in the frontseat as there's an airbag, and if that doesn't work, as the car is old, then i should be able to hold on to my child in a crash. She has also told me that my kids are fine in the backseat unrestrained as the frontseats will stop them. She never restrains her kids, or herself, and I never wear my seatbelt as I survived a crash when i was young because I was unrestrained, and i've never buckled up since. I always restrain my kids, but I only have one car, and my husband normally takes it to work, and I have to get a lift with friends. I'm not sure what to do as something tells me that it's not safe to hold a child in the frontseat, but nothing has happened so far! What could go wrong Can anyone give me some tips? There's normally my friend and I, and five kids (my two and my friends three, all under 5) in a small hatchback!

You need to get a vehicle with enough seatbelts for everyone. It is illegal to carry more passengers than there are seatbelts. And it is illegal to carry unrestrained children regardless of the number of seatbelts.

Carrying the infant in your lap is a recipe for certain death, especially for the infant. In an impact, you will not be able to hold onto the infant. Additionally, airbags can be fatal for infants -- read the warning on the underside of the sun visor!

Only a moron that doesn't give a toss about his or her kids would ever let them ride unrestrained. Period!!

I used to drive an ambulance, many years ago. The worst accident that I responded to was one where I had to scrape the brains of a 3-year old from the tree that her mother hit. The child was in the back seat and was ejected through the windshield when her idiot mother (who was wearing a seatbelt and survived without a scratch) hit that tree. I still have nightmares about that one.

Are you really this stupid? No child under five should ever be in a car unless it is in a proper child seat or booster. NEVER NEVER NEVER hold a child in your lap in the front seat as an airbag deployment will instantly kill your child. Airbags are not pillows, they deploy with enomous force. Sometime adults are knocked unconcious and almost every adult has some kid of face injury. Many report it as getting punched in the face.
There is no safe place in a car for children under five except in a safety seat or seat belt. Most states it is illegal to travel without a car seat. Make other arrangements or drive your husband to work and take two cars.

go into an enclosed room (regularly a bathroom) the position there aren't any domicile windows, so there is not flying glass. Pull something heavy (like a mattress) over your self. If that's a very undesirable hurricane, even that could not artwork. those who're outdoors could not get into an vehicle to attempt to outrun the hurricane. Get right into a ditch it is less than floor aspect. do not get on the point of the position there are electric powered lines, or close to a progression it is contained in the path of the hurricane. undergo in innovations that tornadoes go from northeast to southwest. in case you get stuck in a progression, advance the domicile windows a crack to equalize the stress. stay faraway from rooms which have domicile windows, because flying glass is deadly. I stay in Dallas, and this time of year is amazingly scary for all of us from TX all the way north to MN. If the sky seems yellow or eco-friendly, we commence taking cover. I rode out a tornado in 1976 that blew the back end off our domicile. All 3 children (who were somewhat small on the time) and that i have been contained in the bathroom contained in the tub, lined with a mattress we had dragged off a mattress. It actually sounded as if a practice became roaring properly next to us. Thank goodness no individual became harm.

Are you serious with this question??? Not only is it not safe to have young children unrestrained it is down right child abuse! The back seat will stop them?? Not when they are flying through the air & into the windsheild, or the roof or having their neck or back broken from being in your arms with an air bag-are you superhuman?can you withstand an impact and remain immoable? And what's this about nothings happened so far? that's kinda like saying Oh gee little bobby's been running around all day with a steak knife in his mouth and nothing has happened yet. You are a stupid, ignorant, abusive, hrrible mother who should not have been allowed to breed! If you can't fit all your children safley in a car then stay home!

Apparently child safety is not in your vocabulary. It is NEVER ok to put a child, especially one under 5, unrestrained and unprotected in a car, no matter what the make and model is. You are a danger to your children as well as your friend. It's sad really, but expected from the likes of you.

an airbag can kill a child its proven , its safest to sit your child in the back seat, if there really is no other option but i strongly agree with 'momma' , surely -cant your husband make some other arrangements from time to time so you may have the car to transport yourself and your children in safety, - i know your not wanting to be critized about your parenting re your question but im sure there will be a lot of people telling you THAT ITS JUST REALLY CRAZY TO HAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN A VEHICLE UNRESTRAINED its actually negligence

Your friend is a nut, and you should not seek any more parenting adivce from her.
As far as driving around with your kids just free in the car...I am trying to answer this without sounding insulting. It's crazy. Of course they can get hurt in the backseat. They can fly right over the seat and through the windshield...or halfway through the windshield.
If your kids aren't that important to you, seek help and find loving parents who will properly care for them.

middle of back seat is the safest. who is your friend? it is never safe to have a child on your lap front or back seat. the front seat with an airbag is the absolute worst!!! The baby/child could and probably would die! The airbag is deployed by a very forceful explosion. Even shorter folks have been decapitated by airbag deployment!

In reading your question I have come to the conclusion that either u made that up to get a rise outta people or u should NOT have children! Anyone who would do that is f*ckin moron and their children should be immediatley removed from the home by social services! Personally....I think u made that up!
