Depending on where you got your puppy it could be several things. If he was a stray or from a puppy breeder he could have mites. Most likely he has irratated skin. He may be allergic or sensitive to the dog shampoo that you use or perhaps his flea collar or flea preventative. A trip to the vet could help determine the main cause. Most likely it is nothing serious but the itching could cause damage to his delicate skin if an answer is not found.

The cause of your puppy itching all the time (provided it is a healthy puppy) is fleas. I know you say he doesn't have any but I will guarantee he does.
Purchase some Advantix or Frontline topical flea medication and apply it as directed. After a week, give your pup a bath in an oatmeal or other conditioning shampoo.
I bet a week later the itching is stopped or considerably less!!!

Here's some possibilities: (1) Some dogs have allergies, just like people do. (2) My vet says, scratching is just a dog thing---all of them do it sometimes, for no reason. (3) Ear mites would cause a puppy to scratch near his head or ears. (4) He could be sensitive to whatever shampoo was used on him just before you got him. (5) My vet says, if the puppy is bathed more often than every 7 to 10 days, they might have skin irritations from the frequent bathing. I am a new puppy owner, too. Good luck.

He may be having an allergic reaction to dust mites in your house...some people are affected by dust in other people's houses, so why not the dog? He also might have skin mites of his own, which can cause dermatitis (irritation of the skin, which itches). Take him to the vet and ask for a disinfectant bath, especially if he came from a person's home or an overcrowded shelter. If his ears are dirty and waxy, he probably has earmites too. Get him checked out by a vet, he's probably going crazy.

Many things could be going on. Some dogs have allergies to their food, and this can cause the itching. Some dogs are allergic to grass, especially in the morning when there is dew on the grass. And he could just have dry skin. Do not bath him to much, and if you MUST bath him, use an Oatmeal based shampoo, and RINSE RINSE and RINSE again. You can call your vet and ask him as well if the itching continues.
good luck

Because he is a puppy, he could have a skin rash. The best thing to do is take him to the vet, have him checked out from top to bottom. This will insure that you have a healthy pup and if he has skin rash, mites in his ears, he will be a happy camper because the vet will give you something to clear them up.

Dry skin could definitely be the issue. Be sure you are bathing him with a non drying shampoo. I use baby shampoo. Also, the dog food you are feeding it can effect dry skin. If it is the cheapest, it will not be the best. My dogs have great healthy coats and I went with Iams puppy food.
Good luck!

It could be allergies. Give him a bath w/ hypoallergenic shampoo. It's OK to use baby wash if you can't find something hypoallergenic for dogs. If it doesn't help, take him to the vet. If it is allergies, the vet can give him medication to help stop the itching.

My sister's new puppy has the same problem and they're not sure why. My brother-in-law is a vet and he bought pet shampoo for sensitive skin. Hope that helps!

do not give it a bath (unless it is very dirty) you will wash the natural oils from its skin they need the oils otherwise they get dry skin. check for allergies, clean his kennel, and watch what it is lying on outside. some puppies are sensitive to weeds grasses and flowers. there may also be other bugs such as mosquitoes , ants, that may be biting it.
