No!, they "think" it is true because they have been "brain" washed
to believe everything in the Bible. It is clear to any one with a mind that actually looks at the world and how it works that much of the Bible is not true, (Noah's flood) etc.

Attaway Spike. I wonder about that too. You could always do the faithful thing and just attribute it to a miracle. Me, I tend to look at the old testament writing with a thought that some embellishment may have been added, as is with any story passed down through the generations. But the embellished stories still have a root of truth at the core. So, I have a feeling a thousand years may be off some. But I'm sure the Methuselah lived for a considerably longer time than normal, for whatever reason.

That is the problem when people take what is written in the Bible literally! I can't say that I am able to fully interpret the meanings of Bible stories (especially the ones in the Old Testament, as they are based on ancient Semitic Myths) and if anyone tells you they can, they are big, fat liars, but what it probably meant was that Mathusala was a fair and just man and because of his belief in God, he lived a long, happy life. Numbers in the Bible very often have a symbolic value or a stylistic one (they are exagerated in order to create an effect on the reader) just like in any other religious work.

There is scientific evidence to indicate that a pre-flood humanity could have lived considerably longer than humans do today. If you'll notice from the accounts in the Bible, life spans drop off drastically after the flood. This is due to the "hyperbaric" conditions of the world that existed due to zero rainfall, and the existence of a vapor canopy that rested on the earth's atmosphere prior to the rains. No, really.

Yes. This is very possible do to the fact that disease and sickness was fairly new and had not progressed through the human race. Because every cell in the human body replaces itself every 5 years or so, I believe that humans were designed to live indefinatley. Anytime someone dies, it is always the result of some sort of illness or bodily malfunction that the body could not repair prior to the person expiring.

No, I don't believe that prior to the flood, humans lived more than ten times longer than they do today.

I believe that the scribes that were writing all these stories down for King David they extended life spans of important figures where there were "gaps" in the story.

People of King David's time couldn't have actually KNOWN any of this. they were only writing what they had been told.

Yes. And there is scientific reasoning to support the shortening of lives after the flood. God said mans years would be shorter... and around that a supernovae exploded and sent radiation to the earth and as a result, people don't live much past 120 years.

Well they were made perfect (Adam and Eve) to live forever. When they sinned they were cast out of Eden but I guess they would have still have some residue of perfection and immortality that allowed them last that long and subsiquently there children. Over time it would degenerate to what is today.

I believe the Bible!

Well, actually, yes. It's hard enough sometimes believing in God, with all the unanswered questions but if I still believe that, why not that people used to live a really long time?
