MUST HAVES:
#1 - a good work-out bra!
#2 - tennis shoes
#3 - cotton clothing (no jeans!)
#4 - water bottle
OPTIONAL:
#5 - something to keep your hair up off your neck
#6 - personal music device & headphones are nice
#7 - if gym has a pool, bathing suit and towel
#8 - either plan on going straight home afterward or bring your shower essentials and a change of clothing
MOST IMPORTANT:

Good sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt or sweatpants and a t-shirt - whatever you're comfortable wearing. WATER bottle is a must. A towel. Maybe some sort of music device like a Ipod or discman. Maybe a book or magazine to read while on the treadmill. (I do that on the days I walk on the treadmill or use the ellipitical trainer - it makes the time fly by!)
Sephora carries a multipurpose bodywash/shampoo - I'm sure there's others out there too. Whatever cosmetics and hair products you use after showering.

I keep stuff like this in a tote bag so it's ready to go.

Take water, you will need it and take a towel. No one wants to sit on your sweat!

Money for the locker would be handy and if you will have a shower, get your own soap and hairwash.

For clothes, this is NOT a fashion parade. You are going to get fit and improve your body shape. Wear the cool gear once you have the body, but until then wear comfortable clothes that allow free range of movement.
