I am going to a wedding reception on Friday(8/4/06). Its my best friends sisters wedding. Is it okay to wear jeans and a nice button down shirt? or should I go out and get a nice pair of black pants and dress shoes?

if you are not in the wedding party and the reception is before 5pm.... then you can certainly wear a good pair of jeans with a good button through shirt...

If it is after 5pm I am afraid that there is no ettiquette at all in wearing such casual wear....

if the wedding is at say 4pm then the reception falls at 5pm... roughly... so no jeans okay

Unless the reception is held at a dude ranch do not wear jeans!! Go out and buy a nice pair of dress pants and a nice button down shirt and tie and shoes. You can also get away with a nice pair of khakis, button down and blazer. Check out the sites below for a few ideas and then hit the mall.

Is the reception a backyard BBQ or a picnic? If not, then get something dressier. If money is a problem, try Salvation Army and Goodwill. With a LONG dressy top worn outside the pants, you can fudge a little on the fit of the pants. Cheap but appropriate clothing is better than expensive inappropriate clothing. Even if the jeans are adorned with precious jewels and cost $1,390 at Neiman-Marcus, they are still not appropiate for a wedding.

No. It's a close family friend, and it's a wedding. Wear some nicer pants, especially since it is at a country club. The only way I could see wearing jeans to a wedding would be if the invitation requested casual dress. But even then, I wouldn't recommend jeans.

If you are not in the wedding party then a nice pair of pressed jeans with a button down shirt is totaly acceptable at most receptions as long as they are not offensive or dirty. As most wedding recptions that i have ever been to are a formal affair.

If you are not riding a horse to the ceremony, then jeans would be exceedingly tacky. You don't own anything other than jeans?? Wedding attire should across the board be respectful - slacks or khakis, a button down shirt, and a tie, at the very least. It's always better to be overdressed than to be Kevin Federline.

NEVER EVER wear jeans to a wedding - not even a denim skirt. Either wear the black pants and dress shoes or wear a summery kind of dress.

That is really rude to wear jeans to a wedding. It is even rude to wear jeans to a shower. One person wore jeans to my shower and every one did not stop talking about it for a long time. I didn't think it was a big deal but all my friends did.
