They were probably raised that way no doubt. It's usually peaple who are not respectable. It is definatly not professional. I can (mabbee) see once in a while if something bad/awful happens when your not expecting it, but I do find it offensive to talk to someone who used a bad word every other word in a sentence. If my children are around, I'll ask them to not talk like that in front of the kiddos, but no doubt their children will be swearing at age 2 when they can talk, and the parent will think it's funny. How very sad. I equally find it offensive when peaple use my God's name in vain over and over and over again. They don't realize how much damage that is doing.

Using speech laced with profanity is more likely to perk up the ears of the listener. The problem is, it makes the speaker look like an idiot. Sometimes profanity is used to accentuate a point, but the profanity has become so overused, that it has become diluted...no matter what the FCC might think.

Profanity has its uses. For example if you hit your thumb with a hammer you are not going to go "well gosh golly gee that kinda hurt". You are gonna let a word or two slip. But in causual conversation its more of a space filler, they think other people will think that they have more to say if they use profanity. We've all done it, even if its just thinking it.

Jaft you! You jafting people just don't know when to realize that a word is just a jafting word. It's not "profane" its just a god jafting word. People say it because they don't want to say any other jaft. It's the word that makes sense at the time. Get it through your jafting head.

I am a deeply articulate person.
My vocabulary is broader than most.
"Profanity" is a silly word that encompasses a select number of expressions in our language that are perfectly useful, excepting that a few timid souls gasp when you say them.
The ARE urgent...... the ARE profane..... thats WHY they're useful. Your therory questions your own timidity and perhaps even your age.

some people think it makes them sound cool to use profanity, and others just don't know other ways to express themselves...and a few don't know the words they speak are profanity...our vocabulary has really gone down hill!!

When used sparingly, profanity can provide emphasis. Though, when someone uses it excessively, I find that to be a sign of someone who never obtained a higher education.

It depends.. for some people it helps enhance their speech while for others they are so used to using it that they cant even get 3 words out of their mouth without some bad words comming out.

I think it is for the shock factor. We have a friend that uses the f word in every sentence. After his grandma died we went to see him and it was the first time I had heard him talk without using that word!

I enjoy using my language to the fullest extent. What you call profanity allows me to express myself in ways other words can't. If you happen to be offended by words that's your problem.
Why did you post this in Religion & Spirituality anyway? It doesn't belong in this category.
