Americans speak English, but not Great Britain's English.
Not even Britons speak a universal British language.
There are as many accents in England as there is in the USA.
Americans have a wide range of accents as do all large countries.

I have a London English accent and I like it :-)
Personally, I think it sounds best when French, German and other surrounding coutries speak English with there own accent. Irish is nice too.

I think I sound just like American TV network newscasters, but I have lived in California for the last 50 years.
I can't really hear much of an accent from most English native speakers from Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, and points west. (But I do hear a difference in cadence from certain areas of LA!)

I am origionally from russia but I have lost my accent over the years. However, my parents still speak with a strong russian accent. Personally, now, I speak the midwestern accent (also the plain "american" accent). but i also have the ability to speak in many different accents if I want to. I can speak with a russian, spanish, southwestern, chinese, and new york accents easily.

I never think that I have an accent, but at times people know that I'm from Pittsburgh just by the way I pronounce certain words.
