No....this is one individual who is not policed by 'consent'. History has shown that the British police cannot by trusted - lying under oath, tampering with evidence...etc etc.. And don' t let them fool you with the 'few bad apples' nonsense. They hate you.

I largely trust the rank and file - they are only doing their jobs after all. It's the officers and those in charge (especially Iain Blair - it must be the surname) that let the whole institution down. The police spend far too much time on cases which result in a fine (speeding etc) and nowhere near enough time on criminal cases such as rape. Perhaps it's because they're lazy - it's so much easier to send a photo of a speeding motorist and demand a fine than it is to investigate, find DNA evidence, get statements etc.

The modern police force needs overhauling - they don't spend enough time on the streets, and lawmakers need to make it very very clear to the general populatioin that if you break the law you will be punished - and not let off because the prisons are crowded. So overall - no I don't trust the police, but it is not entirely their fault.

I'm not from Britain but I definitely agree with grumpy old man about police in general. They are not there to protect u...but they write u a ticket. My mother's alarm system called the police when her garage was being broken in to. Of course the offender was long gone by the time the police got there. They never knocked on her door or anything. Her garage is damaged...her car is damaged and her radio is gone.

Now I betcha if I run the stop sign on her corner I'll be coming up with $75 for a ticket. WOW

What a fine honest law abiding trustworthy bunch of genuine nice people they are.
I for one cannot speak highly enough of the British Police.
Whenever I've needed a helping hand they have been there for me.

Yes, the police do as fantastic job, which is becoming increasingly dangerous, but they still put themselves out there, and we all know its not for the pay. people who have problems with the police, are normally the criminals, so fair do's. But people tend to blame police when a person who wronged them doesnt go to jail, and this is usually down to the courst, which the police have no control over. I have muchos respect for the police.

The police are only as good as those that support them. Without the support of the public they couldn't find there way to the stop sign at the end of the block.

Yes I do. I accept there are some major problems within the Police but whenever I have needed them they have been fantastic.

The vast majority of them, yes.

There are corrupt coppers, racist coppers, sexist coppers, power-mad coppers..... but the majority of police do an amazing job everyday

i agree with Ian, Its the courts i don't have faith in. Our local police are fine except for the fact that there are not enough of them, but thats a government not police issue.

NO.
They are interested in getting numbers of arrests up for figures, not to catch criminals, so they go for the easy targets such as old ladies who haven't paid council tax and let burglars and muggers carry on because it is 'too hard' to catch them
