I just don't understand why NATO don't do anything to stop the war between Lebanon and Israel? Isn't that the reason why NATO is made, to stop any wars?

NATO: North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Members: US, Canada & most of Western Europe as well as several former eastern bloc countries. Mission: Defense of the member nations.

Israel and Lebanon are not member states, and are nowhere near the North Atlantic theater.

No, NATO is not intended to stop war. It is a collective security organization where the member states have signed a common defense agreement meaning an attack on any NATO state is an attack on ALL NATO states.

Ergo, when Al'Quaida attacked the USA in 2001 it was an attack on ALL NATO countries, obligating them under article 7 of the North Atlantic Charter to take action against Al'Quaida and its allies.

If the NATO command were to take it's obligations seriously (and it doesn't) it would intervene in Lebanon... against Hezbollah.

Nevertheless, if you want to cast this as a Lebanon vs. Israel War then NATO has no role to play. Israel is not a NATO member and neither is Lebanon. Like all wars, it is best to let this play out until someone wins rather than bailing out the losers.

Not NATO many countries do anything because they are too scared to get into anything to do with war,the only ones you can count on are the Americans and the British, there might be some that help now and then

They can't do anything because the UN is supposed to do it. Unfortunately, the UN is now a completely impotent organization with no backbone & no teeth.

NATO is a military alliance that originated as opposition to the spread of communism. Since the effective fall of communism, I haven't heard much regarding what new directions they are taking.

The war in Iraq could have been avoided if the UN forced the weapons inspectors on them like they were supposed to. The conflict in Israel is a lot more complicated & goes back a lot longer, so all they can do is sit back & say "aw, geez, come on guys. Stop fighting. Pretty please with sugar on top?" Apparently they think that is enough to stop generations of hatred.

NATO no longer has a mission - it was to defend Western Europe against the Soviets and the Warsaw Pact. It is an obsolete relic of the Cold War, and has been a drain to US taxpayers who did the heavy lifting (and spending) to protect a now mostly useless socialist Western Europe.

The US needs to disentangle themselves from it. Time for the EU to stand up on its own two feet.

NATO was not formed to police the world. That job belongs to all the bleeding hearts at the U.N., who think it's just great to send U.S. troops around the world to get smoked defending a bunch of people that hate us from a bunch of people that despise us, and then ***** because we're not sending enough money to prop up the dictator of the day as chosen by who ever hates America the most that day.

it really isn't nato's responsibility. however, were the US to get involved, then nato would respond. the only realistic resolve to the fighting between lebenon and israel is the removal of the hezbollah element from lebanon, and israel is working on that.

NATO will not do anything because the US will not get involved. The Europeans make a lot of noise but have a bad habit of not doing anything to solve problems. Look at what happened at Serebinca to see how well European peacekeepers protect the helpless.

"The war in Iraq could have been avoided"
"We will have to wait & see who wins the war"

Is this the kind of braindead dribble that your goverment has brought you to believe. Firstly, we all know that 9/11 & Afghanistan were a front for the war on Iraq so that America could go in & drain every drop of oil out of the country. What happened to the 3billion in funds that were supposed to have been assigned to rebuild Iraq? I wonder!
It seems that Israel now, with Bush & Blairs permission are going to destroy Lebanon for a second time, in the name of peace, for a better world, for global dominance morelike! In the name of fighting terrorism for a safer society. Seems to me that the people fighting this war on terror in the name of peace are the ones that wage the war. As I say, 9/11 in the States, 7/7 in London, the Milan bombings, all been totally covered up by the goverments that want to install fear into the general public so they can carry out their cleansing of unwanted factions at their own leisure! The cost of this, millions of inoccent lives, will the lying & wars ever end?? who knows!

Death to all terrorists.

And for your information, NATO is a mutual defense treaty between the US/Canada and Western Europe. It was made to defend against attack from the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries. It was intended to fight wars, not stop them.

Sorry, try again.
