There are a lot of generalized questions on here about George Bush and I'm NOT a fan of his but that is beside the point here. I understand people aren't happy about us going to Iraq. I get that - old news. Now, with the Middle East conflict -- between Lebanon/Hezbollah vs. Israel, where does George Bush fall into play with this? I know he was not "for" a cease fire -- but in this case, he did't start that war......am I right? So why are people angry at him for THIS PARTICULAR issue? Okay - so the U.S. is backing Israel. Why would we back Hezbollah since they truly are a terrorist organization? I am asking because I am a bit confused about this - not because I am bashing anyone. Would someone PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS to me. Thank you very much.

There are a lot of "true believer" type people who still believe he "stole" the election in 2000, have never forgiven him for it, and will hate him for the skimpiest and most irrational and inaccurate reasons. Two excellent cases are the response to Hurricane Katrina where these idiots are blaming Bush even though the only person who had the authority (which she did not use in a timely fashion) to call out the Louisiana national Guard was Gov. Kathleen Blanco ( a Democrat). The other case is the current increase in gas prices. The fact is the demand curve for gasoline in this country is highly inelastic, which means that prices are mostly supply driven. A big reason prices went up is because we have not added any new oil refineries for thirty years or increase domestic crude oil production, largely because the Democratic Party (led by their environmentalist faction) consistently and repeatedly voted against developing this capability. Because of this, we had no backup capability when Katrina struck, causing a shortage of supply and large price increases. If the people of this country had any kind of understanding of sound economics, the party that would be blamed in the upcoming election would be the Democrats. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.
In response to Dr. Bond, yes it's true that Israel did not exist at the turn of the century, but then neither did Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, or Jordan , all of which were part of the Ottoman Empire. The one that committed the Armenian Genocide in 1915.

Real simple. Those that bash Bush on this topic are appeasers. They are the same people that excuse the early actions of Hitler with regard to Czechoslovakia and Poland, that excuse the post ww2 actions of Stalin, and excuse the excesses of Mao. They refuse to stand up to injustice and tyranny because they harbor white guilt, and project that white guilt on the lens of everything they observe in world events. They are wrong to do so.

Despite what the Jew-haters above me posted, Hezbollah is a terrorist organization, and Israel is not deliberately targeting civilians. Hezbollah. deliberately places its weapons within civilian targets, and therefore makes them military targets. If someone uses a human shield and shoots three members of your family dead, you are perfectly within your rights to remove that human shield to kill the person who killed your family.

So long as Hezb. continues to fight using human shields, Israel will kill them. And they are right to do so.

For too long American diplomacy in regards to the middle east has always been peace no matter what. Blame IKE for that one, and people have replicated that ignorant policy ever since. People need to go back and read their Clausewitz and recognize that a cease fire is just the lull while both sides re-arm. Why should Israel allow someone killing their citizens the opportunity to re-arm?

I think it has to do with the over all picture of the middle east. Hezbollah is no friend of the U.S and in fact supports/sides with it's enemy's such as the governments in Iran and Syria as well as the fight being lead by the insurgency in Iraq. There for if Israel takes them out of the picture it's one more victory in the so called war on terror. The tragedy is of course the innocent civilians caught in this conflict which grabs the attention of the world.

Just my take and looking forward to other responses.

Israel is our friend. As I think you have noticed, Some people (liberals and other people who hate Jewish people) have a double standard. They hold Israel to one standard the the wanton killers that the Hezbollah are so plainly are to a far less stringent standard (as if they are misbehaving children).

Bush doesn't want a ceasefire because he wants Hezbollah to pay the price for their violence. I agree with him. Wipe them out. Teach those that remain alive to kindly not act like terrorists and they won't be treated like terrorists.

bottom line?
this war should not have been started. the issue could have been resolved politically.
so it was started, and it was clear from the out set that israel was killing civilians indescriminately... which is humanitarian crime laid down by the geneva convention, made worse by the fact they where not allowing them to escape.
bush comes into this, because the world should be coming down like a tone of bricks to stop this and taking the israeli govt to court. what bush has done is stopped them from doing this by saying people shouldn't 'critisise' israel or israel will 'stop talking' which will stop a peace being brought about.
everyone knows this is rubbish, but no-one wants to risk being held responsible for making the situation worse, but unfortunately that also makes them guitly of aiding and abetting a war crime which is exactly what bush wants so that there are no reprocussions on israel afterwards(still with me, 'cos i'm getting lost). they are also unhappy because it is clear that it is bush's agenda that is being executed here. it is well know that bush wants to wipe out the current govts in iran and syria, his comments in the media regarding this have increased since the invasion of iraq, indicating that they are his next targets.
no-one wants to back hizbollah, they want to back the lebonese people who are the ones suffering at the moment... who are the victims of this crime... but hizbollah are smelling of roses at the moment. they have not targeted civilian areas deliberately, and have offered a prisoner swop negotiation for a truce, which can not be said for israel, who is behaving like a 2 year old child who can't control his temper.

an analogy for you:
you go to a bbq.... there is a two year old brat beating up a dog who stole some of his food. the dog takes this well... ie he hasn't bitten the kid... but the kids gets into a raving temper screaming and shouting and hitting the dog (who still just cowers under the torrent and is starting to bleed from being forked). you say to the mother of the kid that she should stop him. no, she says, he has a right to defend the food on his plate. you make it clear that you will stop him, but she says that she will stab you with her knife if you so much as go near her little baby. what do you do? watch the kid kill the dog?

i dont think people are mad at him for that particular reason...i think people just see the states as a protector and figure he should be in there protecting the innocent...and i dont think he is really backing anyone up its just the fact that hezbollah is a terrorist group and the us doesnt support that.. basically hezbollah is trying to take over isreal and bush doesnt really fall into play at all but everyone thinks he should help ouyt since his army is so strong...but why kill off his people for someone elses fight

Hezbolla is not truly a terrorist organization. They are fighting for their land and rights. Thousands of their people are there in Israeli jails and because of Israel the neighbouring nations suffer. And the whole world knows that Israeli aggression is because of American moral support. Do you that Israel country was not there before the begining of 20th century! Know history know facts!

Do you realize thousands of innocent Lebanese are dying just for the capture of 2 israeli soldiers.

Just because US labled some oranization as Terrorist they need not be real!

PS: I am not backing any terrorist organizations. I hate osama as much as I hate Bush.

Well....Nobody is against Israel targeting the Hezbullah...they should do that for their security...but the problem is that right now Israel is targetting the Civilians....and that to with the backing of US...because they know that even if some countries try stop Israel from targetting civilians through the UN....The US would make sure that no resolution is passed by using their veto power.
