My (husband, now)boyfriend is an over the road truck driver and I was a union steward at a local factory. Both of us have trying jobs at times, and I wanted to lighten things and suprise him when he came home the week before. So I put on a pair of thigh high stockings and a pair of stillettos and nothing but a smile, grabbed my trench coat and out the door I went to pick him up at the truck stop. Got out of the car and walked in front of the truck and with his headlights still on "flashed him".....big smile :^> The next week I was having a trying night and when I got home at 11 pm, I went right for the closet to find some sweats to put on and from behind me I heard "Would you wear something special for me?" (I wasn't in the mood, really) I turned around and he was down on one knee holding the opened ring box...I started to cry and said, "You are lucky, I almost snapped and said NO" We were married in Jamaica 10 months later and will celebrate our 4th this month!

My fiance recreated our first date (making brownies) and put the ring in the bottom of a brownie box. I had no idea.
It really depends on your girlfriend. Would she enjoy a public display of engagment? Is she more of a private person?
Although the candlelit dinners are romantic, that's what EVERYONE does.
What my fiance did for me was amazingly romantic because it was us and represented our relationship.
Don't just propose for the sake of proposing. If you're going to propose, you may as well do it right. Start by asking her parents for permission. Always good there.

I place a big one page Advertisment in our local newspaper on Valentines Day and Asked him to marry me. Since I had to be at work at 4 a.m. that morning, I bought a giant card put it on the couch and opened up the newspaper to the page that had People say we are two peas in a pod I love you with all my heart Scott Feichtner will you marry me? Love Heather Ott. I also put his ring on the coach for him too.
Later that night we went out to eat and when we were talking he was going to propose to me at the resturant and when we got home he showed me my ring and it was in the same drawer as I had his ring hidding in until that morning. It was funny that neither one of us had seen the other box as we had them hidding under stuff.

My husband did it in a local park as the sun was setting and we were all alone, there was two beautiful swans in the water right by us. It was nice. I always thought that a hot air ballon ride would be romantic when the sun sets or rises. Or hire a plane to take you up and do it then. They really don't cost that much money.

Do something that will touch their heart. Like an interest you both share... and us that! If it is something you already share then you can always think of that special moment when you share it again.
For example if you share a liking in a sport you could do it somehow with the sport involved.
Just remember to make it a surprise and to be on one knee!!!

My fiancee took me to the beach for Valentine's Day. He had hid clue cards all over the beach house, inside and outside. He sent me on a scavenger hunt for them. I thought I was just getting a Valentine's present. Well, when I got to the last clue card it told me his feelings for me and to let my heart show me the way. Well, I was confused. I went back inside to a candlelite room with rose petals everywhere. Our song was playing (You Are by Jimmy Wayne) and that's when he fell to his knees and asked me to be his wife. Of course I said yes.
We are now happily married.
