We have a lot of blacktop country roads here; they're in pretty good repair, but they normally have no shoulder, and no margin for error.

These roads are posted anywhere from 45 to 55 (!), and, because the area in question is rolling piedmont, it takes a little concentration to drive them safely.

I do the speed limit, weather permitting, or within a couple mph of it. And, this really pisses a lot of other drivers off. Sure, I pull over and let them around me, BUT: (here's the question): WHY is it necessary to fly 10 to 20 mph OVER the already rather high limit?

I see some spectacular wrecks out here, by the way.

OXYMAN: What, do you think current speed limits were set in 1880? I'll bet you're a lousy driver: careless of others, and convinced of your own immortality.

I feel for you. Those people just don't get it. They are endangering everyone around them.

And if they would pause to do the math, they really don't save a whole lot of time in the end.

And they are reading your question right now and laughing. Sad. Very sad.

If they are teens though, they just don't know better. I used to do stupid stuff while driving. Thank goodness I lived through it.

where are you in piedmont? i visit there often... in the Serra.

I also noticed the drivers - it feels like they have to prove to be MEN by speeding. Have you also noticed that on the Autostrade you find the same idiots cruising 150 or 180 kmh? sometimes they "meet" a truck.

The speed limit is actually unrealistically low and was invented when technology was different. Speed is not necessarily the cause of accidents.

People think it saves time to go extra fast, but the only time it saves time to go extra fast is when the lights are perfectly timed together and you hit them just right.

I'll answer that if you can tell me why people pass you and then turn right?
